View Full Version : HDTV Olevia 37"
I have a HDTV but it does not have the built-in tuner. I ordered HD from my cable company and love the pic but am confused. As I search Google the sites I find say I need an aux tuner. The cable company did change my cable box to a HD one. Do I still need a HD tuner or is it built-in to the new cable box?

To get HD programs/channels, you need an HD tuner (cable, ATSC or satellite). Or... an internal tuner in the TV (which you say you don't have).
EDIT: Sorry... I misread. You did say the changed out the STB.
What's the make/model number of the cable box you currently use?

This is an HD Cable box and you will be fine provided you use an HD connection like component video, or DVI/HDMI to your TV. See the HDTV FAQs:
- Tips for SA STBs
- Cables & Connections
- What you need to do to your new HDTV
- Etc.
You may wish to consider getting the SA8300HD instead. People love their DVRs.
I am useing a component video connection. Is HDMI that much better? Thanx ALL.
Try it and see. It may or may not be. See the HDTV FAQ "DVI/HDMI Information". You can buy a cable for under $20 from monoprice.com or a local computer store.
The SA3250HD is DVI out.
The SA8300HD is HDMI out.

how do you like tha Olevia? There are a few buyers on the forums these days weighing their options and a review would be most helpful. I wish more people would use the review section and post their reviews.
Can't find a link on board for reviews but I love it and feel free to copy post and move. Took awhile (one year) to get to where I wanted. I'll explain...I have a LT37HV. My cable company, Atlantic Broadband, last year coming into football season only offered 6 channels for 80 bucks...forget that. I searched around and found that instead of going to TV with coax from my digital cable box I should be useing S video and it really cleaned up the signal but I lost my surround sound on TV but still had with my DVD. Fine...TV has great sound system. Then here comes football season again so I called. 12 channels for 17 bucks...get the guy out here ASAP. The installer was nice but not to "into" HDTV. Told me to use my TV remote to adjust picture size. Called them back and they sent another who knew less. Called Syntax, the Olevia manufacture, and he figured it out for me. The Olevia help guy ask me what box and said he would call me back. I figured I'd never hear from him again and WOW he called about an hour later and said he found the prob on the internet at the cable box manufacture web site. I have to use the cable box remote (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3250HD) and when on a HD channel I change screen size to normal. On non HD feeds I stretch the screen (not zoom). Great service. Bought TV for $1500.00 a year ago. Just missed a great deal at the local opening of a new store. The exact TV in a 32 inch for 800 bucks. To be honest the 32" would be fine for living room and I would have moved the 37" downstairs to rec room. And I now would not buy wall mount...the stand that comes with TV has a very small footprint. A fireplace mantle or sofa table area is all you need.

Here is the 32 inch version. Great price. I may get this one instead of the Westinghouse model I saw at the same store. The salesman said that for the money the Olevia and Westinghouse LCD's were good.

VCF1,
What components do you have and how are they hooked up? Looking at the owners guide I see only one component input. Not good if you have an STB and a DVD player.
video 1 & 2...component 1 & 2...video 3...audio out...dvi/hdcp and vga port but remember my set is last years model. I don't know what the new models offer.
