Hello. I wasn't sure if i should have put this in the sony thread or xbox but i think its a problem with the hdtv.

basically i have my xbox hooked up with the component cables and the picture looks amazing but the problem is that the screen is clipping on the right and left side of the tv. possibly even on top and bottom.
I currently have the tv set to "full" screen mode. all the other modes just blow the picture up. is there any option anywhere that lets me resize the screen like a monitor or is there something else I can do to fix this problem?
I really need help on this. i dont want to have to return a 200lb tv :sightv:
Thank you in advance.

What are the output settings vs. input settings?

You should be able to set your TV to widescreen, and change the 360 output to 16:9. If you don't put the 360 in the right output mode, your image won't be in the right aspect ratio. From this same setting menu in the 360, you can adjust your resolution (720p/1080i). If the display's input settings are not the same as the signal that is coming out of the 360, it will crop the image.

Let us know if this doesn't fix the problem, but you should be able to "fill" the screen without having the image cropped. It looks like the 16:9 setting for your TV should be 'normal'.

Thats another aspect of the Samsungs I like... they actually call it "16:9" or "4:3" ... not full, widescreen, normal.. etc. I hate that.

I'm pretty sure if sony renamed their "full screen" to 16:9 I would still be having the same problem.
I believe I have my 360 set to 1080i and noticed that in 720p the screen size or quality doesn't change at all. but i'll set the tv to widescreen and see if that works. i'll try it later this afternoon once im off of work.

Heres what you want: Xbox 360 set to 1080i and Widescreen, Sony set to 16:9/Widescreen/or whatever the heck they call it. Also, make sure that stupid little switch on the HD cable that is connected tot he Xbox is switched to HDTV and not TV. That should do it.

You are not going to see a difference in the resolution because the TV is scaling the image to its native resolution. The ability to change the input resolution is so that you can get the 360 as close to your set's native res. Use which ever looks best (or in your case, which ever it's already on).

well ok I made sure the settings were where they were supposed to be at and its still the same problem. I'm really having trouble believing that no one else has had this problem with their 970's and the 360.
I called Sony to see if they could help me out and they basically said the same thing. Does the Sony 970 have that advanced service menu? if so would that have a screen sizing tool?

Most likely you need to call in a tech to adjust your overscan.

I could try to look into that although it sounds expensive. I think i know of a few different video and audio tech companies that are around my area. I guess I could see if they know anything about that.

Ok guys I fixed the problem. The keyword I needed to find out the problem was "overscan" (Thank you Kevin). Once finding out that term i did a search on this problem and came across a solution. I did have to go into the secret service menu and from there I was able to change the vertical and horizontal sizes. It was very intimidating being in that service menu but it all worked out and now i can fully enjoy this great tv. Thank you all for your help. It is much appreciated.
Here is the link that helped me out incase someone else has this same problem.
