Anyone know what to use to clean the mirror and lens to a projection TV? I tried alcohol & distilled water with a drop of soap, but it still left streaks.
HomeThreaterStores still suck!

I would use a check for about $300 written out to an ISF calibrator.

What the heck are you doing trying to clean those things?? Didn't you just buy it??

I would suggest some compressed air to get the dust and bugs off the lenses.. You can get a can of this prolly at compusa or staples..

Then I would suggest some camera lense cleaner for actually cleaning the lense.... You can get this at camera stores..

You could actually remove the lenses, but say bye bye to your 56 point convergence when you do this..

I have an old 50"Toshiba projection TV that has not been cleaned in 6 years...not my new overpriced Mitsubishi from those crooks at HomeTheaterStore.

Will lens cleaner paper work on the mirror?

Go to a photographic store, buy some lens cloths and perhaps some lens cleaner, but tell them what you're planning to use it for, so you get the right stuff.

Whoever told you to put a drop of soap on the lens should be hauled out back and flogged. THAT is why you have streaks.

Air for the dust and bugs, but usually then you will (eventually) get a buildup of dust on the edges of the lenses. If you really MUST touch the lens (and, thus, muck up your calibration) then use the lens cleaning stuff... Cotton rags and alcohol. TV stations use special all-cotton squares that are certified to be lint free and denatured alcohol. YOU can probably get away with some old t-shirts that have been rinsed a few times sans soap (to remove any embedded soap) and any frayed edge lint. But I would buy denatured alcohol from a radio/TV supply store or Radio Shack may even carry some. You want ALCOHOL and nothing BUT ALCOHOL. No additives at all!

Drench the rag, wipe the lens thoroughly, it should evaporate completely cleanly.

And never EVER put anything that films up on your lenses again... unless you like the distorted rainbows that it makes I guess. Soap + lenses = BAD!!! (Makes dirt and dust sick to them more too, btw... as soap is a dirt magnet!)

Hope this helps!
