View Full Version : Do they make a 5.1/7.1 single cable?

Okay, this may sound like a dumb question, but is there such a thing as a bundled cable that has 6 or 8 analog audio (RCA) connections? I know that they make component with audio (5), but I have never seen a 6 or 8 lead set.

Wouldn't you assume that with the "popularity" of analog audio, they would sell a single cable. If you can't picture what I'm talking about... I want this (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023501&p_id=2773&style=&seq=1&format=1#largeimage) with one more cable (or three more, I will be getting a 7.1 receiver) built into the main sheilding. It would be nessicary for them to be color coded, but not nessicarily as RGB RW. They could be red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white and black... I don't care, I just don't want to have to run multiple analog cables from source to receiver. (I know, I know... this is what HDMI is for) but if I want/ need to run analog, I would like to have one, pre-made, bundle that could handle 8 channel analog audio.

Ok what are you going to hook to your 7.1 surround sound and does the receiver have 7.1 inputs? Mine only has 5.1 for SACD and DVD-Audio even though it is 7.1

For 5.1 analogue, many people use two sets of component video cables. These are the correct impedence (75 ohms).

To be honest, I don't have a 7.1 source... I was simply wondering if they made a pre-packaged cable that has 8 RCA connectors. I do, on the other hand own the Toshiba HD-A1, and would consider using the analog out. (I want, and have the money for the Denon 3806, but am waiting to see how expensive a 7.1 HDMI 1.3 receiver will be).

Since the cable needs to be 75 Ohm, I have read that you can take RG-59/6 and make audio cables. I have seen sites that sell multi-59 cables. As long as these are 75 Ohm, I can make my own... I just wanted to know if there were any companies (like monoprice) that made them, so I don't have to heat up my soldering iron.

I don't think that analog "audio" interconnects have a requirement for impedance matching.

5.1 analog audio interconnects are available:

The first sentence in this link is We offer all of our analog audio cables not only in stereo pairs, but in five, six, seven or eight-channel sets for use with SACD or Dolby 5.1 or 7.1 surround-sound systems.

You can get any multiple of cables (5,6,7 or 8 cables). Thank you Ratman, this is exactly what I was looking for.

Here are some more, I use the small profile one for connecting my DVD-A player to my AV receiver.

So what can you hook up with 7.1 analog cables? Is there a DVD player that has 7.1 analog outs?

I'm not aware of any... but I guess if you want to get a cable bundle for future positioning, the option is there. ;)

This is exactly why I want a 7.1 bundle. I don't want to wire my entire system, and get everything cleaned up and then have to run two more analog wires later. HDMI is making this all a moot point, but I want the expandability while maintaining the neatness.

Call me obsessive.

Monster had some 5.1 analogue alternatives, albeit very pricey, but these sources are definitely more convenient for my clients, thank you.
The colour-coding on these cables would have been so much better for when I hooked up my Denon AVR-3805 to my Toshiba HD-DVD player, as I messed up the cables and didn't get it right until a few more trial-and-errors (tight space hookup).
I used Y-connectors for the 7.1, making the side and rear surrounds the same as no 7.1 is available yet on HD-DVD discs.
