While I have sung the praises of the radio shack 'enterprise' type indoor antenna, I got a bit frustrated with the freezing of the pic more often than not (I am on average 30+ miles from ANY transmission tower)...I do enjoy the antenna and still recommend IF you want a good indoor antenna...But I saw this and was intriqued...Bought it, stuck it on the end of a Radio Shack 10ft mast ($18.99 I think) and put it on the roof...WOW :wow: !!! I am getting stations now that were questionable with the indoor antenna, with such strength and consistancy that I have yet to see ANY freezing/macro-blocking/pixelation of ANY type...and this through some seriously heavy downpours :drool11: ...

Anyway the rotor is just great, the antenna works (and works QUITE well) and it was about as inexpensive and easy to use as it could be...The ONLY thing I am not thrilled with is the rotor box (that is in the house) is NOT UL listed...But the remote makes up for it!!!

I seen those on Ebay and wondered whether or not they would work OK?

Keep us updated as the months go by,to see it it's still working properly? :thankyou3

I was thinking that something like that might work well for those that want to put a Antenna in the Attic, and have Stations in different directions ? It might be worth a try for those? And the $$$$ aren't to bad !

Absolutely...I have had it for a few days and so far no complaints here...We shall see what the long term results will be...To be honest...if it weren't for the remote controlled rotor...I wouldn't have bought it...But the signals it 'catches' out of the air :rofl2: are remarkably (to me) strong :smokin:

Looks like a folded dipole with reflectors (at rear) and directors (in front). Should work well and have good directional charateristics.

For UHF... it looks good. VHF would be questionable.

Looks interesting but it should perform better. It's outside. I am amazed you got got any reliable signal at that distance with an indoor computer. Well iIguess you didn't, that is why you switched.

Exactly...While I indeed did get good signal with the indoor antenna...it was not consistent enough for me... :sightv:

So in regards to the topic antenna...unfortunately the supplied cable is unshielded and is part of the reception circuit...I found this by accidently moving the cable...To truly test this antenna I will have to take the antenna down and replace with shielded RG6...Will report my findings then...

Meanwhile I must say I like the antenna as a whole :D ...I have the signal split for FM stereo reception (the wife loves to listen to the radio when doing house work) and the OTA STB...Even during the worst weather...nary a glitch... ...So far...for what it is and what I paid...NO complaints here!!!

But time does reveal all... :grandpa9:

The antenna itself works very well for UHF...Flaws that I have uncovered are as follows:

The cable from the antenna to the rotor control box is unshielded...This leaves much to be desired as I can move the wire (or the rotor box) and the signal IS affected...

There is now way to return the antenna to a known position that works without physicly looking at the antenna itself to see where it is pointing...

The remote...at best...is marginal...Very weak and VERY line of sight oriented...

The electricity that goes through the cable to power the rotor affects reception but has no rhyme nor reason...Sometimes it does...sometimes it doesn't...

I have it mounted on a 10' mast on the roof of my single story home. While it certainly is not wasted $$$, I don't think in good faith could I reccommend this antenna for anyone but the casual user and even then...

The search continues...

Doug...How do you like your antenna??? Supposed to be one of (if not thee) best antennas available???

Referring to my 91XG Antenna (http://www.antennasdirect.com/91XG_HDTV_antenna.html) ........

Having had the Channel Master 4228 on my roof for over a year,I was having a few drop out problems with a certain Chicago channel from time to time. I thought that I'd give the 91XG a try. Well it did seem to help some. The real test I, think ,will be this Winter. Will have to see
if it can handle some of the Ice and wet snow that we get here?

Just to add...when I was using the 4228,I also had a CM 7777 Pre amp running with it.
With the 91XG I kept the Pre Amp connected, but I think it might have Over Drivin the signal some. So right now I'm running the 91XG without the Pre Amp !

Well I found the 'sweet spot' for the antenna to pull in all stations without having to rotate it...I no longer have any dropouts at all...However my ONE VHF channel is a hit and miss deal...Seems when something important on that channel is on, I get the channel flawlessly...But just when surfing or even wanting to watch a less than important show I get nadda...but no inbetween...I still have no regrets on the purchase...

I just saw this antenna on Ebay. In your opinion, do you think I can pick up signals up to 60 miles away with this if installed high enough on my roof.? I live out on Long Island NY - signals from CT about 30-40 miles north and NYC signals about 50-60 miles east.

Worth a try or don't waste my money and go with CM 4228 or something like it?

IMO... anything is "worth a try" as long as it can be returned at little or no expense.

But... you'd probably be better off with a 4228 (if all digitals are UHF) and a rotor.

Go with something else for that distance. The rotor ceased to work on mine...Don't know if it is frozen or something else but it doesn't work...Good thing I can get all but 1 channel in the position its in :D .
