I have a problem when connecting my Toshiba 50H82 TV with svideo cables. My HD receiver is connected to an AV receiver with an svideo cable, AV receiver to TV with svideo cable also. When I have it connected like this the picture is not very good, very fuzzy with snow. When everything is connected with a regular video cable picture is much better. Isn't this just the opposite of how its suppose to work? I've tried bypassing the receiver and connecting directly to the TV but I get the same results. When I had my old Sony direct view connected with svideo cables it worked just fine.

Any suggestions?

We have reported here several times that composite video cable connections can provide a superior picture to S-video, because the TV has a better comb filter than the device sending the signal. This is especially true if the device sending is not an "S" device.

You may also wish to check out the FAQ section, 7th one down on the home page - see the post "what you need to do to your new HDTV". S-video can look "worse" on a TV that has not been properly set up.

If the picture is still significantly worse, there may be something wrong with the S-out of the STB or the S-in of the TV.

Do you have a DVD player that you can connect via S-video, the signal should be very good, if not, then the S-in on your TV may have a problem.

You can also try different S-inputs on your TV to see if the problem is on all the inputs...
