Home Video Library in Portland Oregon. It is a family owned store that I have been doing business with for over 10 years. Not a chain, just one location.

Over the years they rented/sold VHS, LD and DVD. No longer do rentals.

Got my Reconditioned Phillips 55PP9501 HDTV from Onecall.com. (Great deal)

Got my Dish Network 6000 box from allsat.com

Receiver from Outlaw Audio.com

Cambridge Sound Works Speakers from their online store at EBAY. (Not great speakers, an area that needs inprovement someday.)

JVC prog scan DVD player from HIFI.COM
(Cambridge Soundworks web site, they had a great deal on this.)

Summary: I've had all good experiences with my online purchases. I live in Vermont, which frowns upon capitalism, at least buy mega-lo corporations, so the closest mall is about an hour drive, so online stuff is more convenient, usually.

The name is deceiving. They started out in the rental business but don't do that any more. I bought all my equipment there. I built all their computers and setup their internet/network and maintain their software. I get a 'deal' on everything I buy, usually at cost. On big things, cost plus shipping. :D

Actually my PVR501 came from Dish when I upgraded to Dish 500, the other three SAT receivers came from HVL.

TV - Hitachi 51UWX20B from Sears. Story is I bought the 43" WS Samsung on sale for $1469 w/stand. Eighteen days later I heard a loud POP! and then nothing, no sound no picture... Went back to Sears and told them my problem. They said to bring it back and they would give me a new one, no problem. Told them I was really hesitant to go with another Samsung and once I got the 43" home I really wanted something a little bigger. He said upgrading would be no problem. Looked around and narrowed it down to the 51" Panasonic and the 51" Hitachi. The Hitachi was rated #1 but listed for $2199. I showed him an hhgregg add that had the TV for $1999. I had already told them (nicely) that if I couldn't find something there to replace the Samsung I would probably just go somewhere else to purchase the next set. After I showed him the add he thought for a moment and said "I can sell you the Hitachi for $1799. I acted like I was mulling the offer for about 10 seconds and then told him to write it up. I was afraid to do the large purchase (TV) online and seeing as I had problems it ended up being a smart decision.

HTS - JVC-TP570 from Spectravox (online purchase). I know, I know, it's a package system, but the wife really didn't want to spend much more than $500 for HT. After researching the package sytems the JVC looked like the best for the money, plus I had purchased JVC audio equipment in past years and was always pleased with it. My ears aren't that discerning so I have been pleased with the JVC system, especially when watching concert DVD's. The system listed for $679 but I got it through Spectravox for $509 delivered.

One note. I was talking to a salesman at one of the high end stores and he said whatever system or components I bought make sure that they had a powered sub woofer. I found out thats some of them don't.

If you are in Texas...dont buy your equipment from HomeTheaterStore. They will sell you what you will not need, and try to confuse you with their fast talk. Their products are overpriced and deceiving like a car dealership. How many folks really enjoy haggling when buying a car? You never know if you really got a good deal. HomeTheaterStore ripped me off with a Mitsubishi 65" Diamond series TV. They do not care if you are fully satisfied.
My Yamaha, Panasonic DVD, and Hughes receiver were all purchased at Best Buy. When I walk out of BestBuy I feel good about my purchase with no regrets. You know what you are getting when you shop there, and they do the best they can to satisfy your needs. No lies or deceits..prices clearly marked. When I buy from a national chain, I know they will be around to back up my product for years to come...
It was a big mistake to purchase through a local Texas run by a bunch of morons like HomeTheaterStore.
