Just got a 42" Plasma. Have simple basic cable. I just plugged the cable into the TV. On set up I did a channel scan. A whole bunch of unusual channels showed up. Like 104-89, TV ONE. There were a bunch of channels that were xx-xxx, or xxx-x, etc. I went to Comcast’s channel line up on the net to see what these channels were, and there are no listings for channel numbers like this. A few that I've found so far are HD, so that's an unexpected, nice surprise! I'd like to find all the available channels, but, with all the potential combinations, it could take months, maybe years to search all possibilities. Can anyone point me to the right place where I can find out more on these channels? Thanks!

You cannot... each QAM tuner will virtually "map" all of the unencrpyted digital channels differently. So, it will have to be a manual effort on your part.

They only other options are to use a cable box supplied by Comcast or if your TV has a Cablecard slot, rent a Cablecard.

IMO, the number of "free" digitals outweighs the inconvenience. Be happy! ;)

See the HDTV FAQ "Can I get Digital Cable".

The scan will find all the available channels, but you'll have to determine yourself what they are and what they correspond to on the "Comcast dial".
