Well, darn it

First some background.
On my 25 year aniversary with the company, they give me a choice of a gold rolex or a $6,000.00 gift certificate for computer equipment. The catch is that it all has to be bought at the same store.
I had pretty much settled on an Hitachi 57SWX20B as my choice of HDTV monitor. (It loosely qualifies as computer equipment).
But I also need a merchant that also sells computer components, like motherboards, processors, video cards, etc. I can build my own so I was gonna get a bunch of neat stuff.
The only merchant that seemed to fit the bill was Fry's but they
don't sell Hitachi.
They have Mitsubishi, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung, RCA, Zenith. Maybe some others that I don't remember.
What to do ?
Settle on the MITS cause I have read/heard that is is a fine set ?
Maybe research the other brands ?
Give, the brands I mentioned above, would you pick the MITS ?

Perhaps work out some kind of a screwey deal with Circuit City cause they have Hitachi but no components. The salesman suggested that the guy in the store next door that sold PCs, perhaps he buy the Hitachi and I could buy the whole kaboodle from him. I worry about warranty issues with that kind of a deal.

As an aside, Circuit City was selling the Hitachi 57XWX20B for 3,200.00.

Decisions, decisions! ha! If you see my list of equipment, you'll know what I'd tell you to buy. You could try Sears - they sell Hitachi as well - my experience there is they don't know squat about what they're selling. But they do carry the set you were looking at first. Good luck! :p

Take the Mits. Honestly, we are talking such a minimal difference (and in MOST of our opinions, Mits is the BEST anyway!)

I have a Sony. I LOVE my Sony. I highly suggest it. If you get a Sony OR a Mits, you will definitely NOT be disappointed. I am told Hitachi's rock as well, but my family has 3 Sony's and 1 Mits and we are all VERY happy with them.

Best thing to do is look at them side by side, if possible and compare the picture for yourself.

Congrats on 25 years. I went through the same questions & ended up with a Sony. In my opinion there really insn't a lot of difference between the top of the line Mitsubishi, Hitachi or Sony. They're all good brands. It comes down to what's the best deal you can get.

With the minor restriction of having to buy computer parts also- I suggest BEST BUY. 6k on a TV and computer leaves a lot of cash for a DVD player and sound system also..Congrats..
