View Full Version : Electrical interference or a bum TV?

I've had my Hitachi 43 inch widescreen for a little over a month now, and it's starting to act a little funny. Whenever I first start watching it, and then for every 15 or so minutes after that, I get what looks like electrical disturbance across my screen. Five or six whitish lines that streak across the top or bottom of my tv for a few seconds. Then last night during a movie it looked like it flicked off and on for a split second - almost unnoticably fast, but I'm sure it happened. It does this with my dvd player, vcr, and with cable - which leads me to beleive that it's either an electrical thing or my television.

Hoping that the problem was electircal I bought a surge protector with a built in noise filter from Radio Shack - with no improvement. So then I went all out and bought a monster clean power strip for 150 bucks...and that still didn't fix it. So this makes me think that there's gotta be something wrong with the tv itself.

Has anyone else had this problem with their tv? Since I bought it during the Christmas season at Circuit City I think I still have until the end of January to return it.

Any ideas on what might be causing it - and for anyone who knows are those monster "clean power" strips worth the money?

Oh and one more thing - any time a movie displays words on the screen - the title, subtitles, etc., I see ghosting. Sometimes I see it around people and objects too - though a little less noticably. Am I being too picky or should I expect more from a high def tv and a progressive scan dvd player?

Thanks,

I'm thinking you brought yourself home a bum...and not the kind you find at your local soup kitchen!

A HD-ready television with a Progressive Scan DVD player, (assuming both products are functioning properly) will give you a brilliant picture...with no ghosting...whenever you're watching just about every DVD out there. I can't say ALL DVD's, only because the DVD is only as good a quality as the source of the original movie.

I would certainly advice checking with whatever local retailer you picked that TV up from...and explain to them your dissatisfaction. Even if they are oblivious about helping you in the store you are warranted by the manufacturer's warranty, so take advantage of it and get yourself another TV!
