Westinghouse LTV-32w6 HD info

I am guessing this is the TV bestbuy will have for $479.99 black friday sale. I read a few things on her about someone saying the reds were pink, but that was fixed after adjusting the hue. Overall though, does anyone own this TV and if so what do you think of it. I already have 2 TV's, but this is too good of a deal to pass up, that is if it's worth it. I have seen westinghouse's items and think they look fine. As we know though, looking at them in a store and viewing them in your house are too different things. Any info would be helpful.

Did you buy it? It was the W3213. I was lucky enough to grab on Friday, and so far I am VERY happy with it in my bedroom! Picture was great out of the box, and even better after I calibrated it. I spent $50 on an extended warrenty just in case =)

Didn't get it. People camped out overnight at the Altoona bestbuy (was home for the holidays). There was still a line at 11AM for people waiting to get in the store. This best buy just opened a few months ago, so the idiots in altoona think its sliced bread.

I got one yesterday for 699. The setup was VERY easy and the HD picture is great.

One little problem so far, though. One some channels and for some programs (both analog and digital) I get a black and white line across the very top of the screen. Any idea what this could be due to? I'm getting an over the air signal through a normal VHF/UHF antenna.

I recently purchased one from Best Buy. I too receive the annoying white lines. My set is hooked up using an HDMI cable.It almost seems like the image needs to be adjusted horizontally (upwards) to make it disappear. Does anyone know how to adjust this? Is there any hidden menu to get into to adjust these settings? Or should I bring it back to Best Buy and try another set?

I am having the same problem with my 32w6. Has anyone figured out a way to fix it? Do all 32w6's have this problem?

The white lines at the top of the screen are usually VBI information (what contains closed capitioning and other information that should be off screen)

They are usually only present on upconverted 4:3 programmes and are usually the fault of the affiliate (complain to them). Many fixed pixel displays do not allow for overscan adjustments, so you may need to watch the equivalent SD channel to avoid the line.

Check your overscan using a setup DVD. See the HDTV FAQ "What you need to do to your new HDTV.

We went to Worst Buy around 7pm on Black Friday (a day I have vowed to never leave the house on *shudder*) because our regular SD TV decided to take a crap and die the night before Thanksgiving. So, we were despondent over the horrid selection of SD tv's and figured if those were so expensive we'd never be able to get HDTV. Out of curiosity I asked a sales person about a couple of hdtv's and he offhandedly said (after a few minutes of looking and questioning) that they had found 11 of the LTV-32w6 HD (that were doorbusters) in the back and they were going to let people have them for the boor buster price ($479.99.) Hell we were going to have to pay 300 or so just to replace our lowly 27" SD so how the heck could I pass that up? Picture looked good. Had tons of features (all the good high end ones I yearned for, (HDMI 720p AND 1080i, optical output, the list went on.) I hated to buy from BB, since I despise them and they try to screw you over left and right but, they were the cheapest.

Anyhoo, we LOVE the TV. Great picture. Don't use the sound much except for OTA HD and it's adequate. It can have a lot of variance in volume between shows/channels/commercials, but who's to say that's the tv and not the insipid networks trying to get me to buy a Kia by blowing my eardrums out. Haven't tried the optical output yet. It possesses Insane amounts of outputs, though one more composite would make it perfect. We love it.

But a couple complaints/problems. Sometimes, well somewhat frequently actually, when watching the OTA HD channels (through a Newpoint Urban/Suburban Amplified Antenna DB208240 [rabbit ears]) the screen/picture will freeze up. It won't respond to the remote or the buttons on the side. The only thing we can do is unplug the power. Other than this "minor" issue we've loved the tv. HD broadcasts look great. Xbox in HD looks great (why is Halo 2 not in HD, but I digress...) DVD's look GREAT! We'd love to upgrade to the HD channels on Directv, but Directv sucks right now and won't let you have TIVO's anymore so that may have to wait. I do not want their crappy proprietary DVR's. Frak.

It also has one dead pixel in the upper right hand corner. You can't really see it from out couch, but my OCD nags me that I know that it's there, so it's more a personal problem than a real nuisance.

Oh, and yes we get the annoying white staticy line at the top as well. The only thing we do is go to fill instead of standard, but that seems like a shoddy stopgap method.

Yep - I own a W3213 HD (same guts as LTV-32w6 HD i think...) and I use antenna only.

The TV freezes - does not respond to remote or buttons on TV - and I have to unplug the whole thing to get it back up. I notice it more on channels that have lower signal strength.

A major annoyance if the TV is cradled back in an entertainment center!!!

I called Westinghouse and they acted like it was no problem. None of my other LCD TVs freeze to the point of having to unplug them. They couldn't care less and can't even acknowledge it is a problem.

So, an even bigger, more amplified antenna might help out the issue - but I should never have to unplug my TV to get it working again...

AND I have the white line on the upper and left-most side of the screen when watching any HD station...terribly annoying...

Do you have this on true HD programmes (16:9) or only on 4:3 upconverts on HD channels? The latter is a problem caused by the affiliate and you should contact them.

If you see it on true HD (16:9), then you have too little overscan on your TV, or the image needs to be shifted up just a bit. Many TVs have a user setting which allows you to raise/lower the image a bit.

To test overscan, get one of the setup DVDs. See:

If the overscan is too low (2-3%, is normal) this may, or may not be adjustable by a service technican.

You may wish to consider a good power bar, switch, UPS or similar, positioned for easy access to allow you to switch off the power to the TV without unplugging (I realize that you should not need to unplug your TV - this is a workaround)
