Ok… So I get home from Home Depot excited that I just bought an HDTV (Element FLX-3202) for under $500. Everything was working fine for awhile. All HD channels were coming in with amazing clarity, everything that I hooked up to the TV displayed fine. Now it has not even been a full 24 hours since I have taken it out of the box and it seems to be unfunctional.
Sorry if this turns out to be a long post. I want to be as detailed as possible.
This is what happened:
I go and get a 6ft. male to male VGA cable so I can hook up my PC to the HDTV (Element FLX-3202).
I plug in the VGA out on the PC to the VGA in on the TV with the VGA cable.
I switch the input on the TV with the remote to VGA Computer input.
I turn on the computer set the resolution at 1366x768 (60 Hertz).
Everything looks and works great so far.
My computer all of the sudden locks up so I do a hard shutdown (turning off the computer by holding down the power button for 5 seconds).
Right when the computer turned off, the HDTV (Element FLX-3202) froze up.
It wouldn’t do anything… I tried changing the input on the remote and the TV’s side panel and nothing happened. I couldn’t even turn off the TV. I tried to turn it off with the remote and the side panel too and nothing happened. All that the TV would show while doing this was a black screen (not blank meaning there was still a display on the LCD) and the blue LED on the right hand corner indicating that the TV is still on.
I then unplugged the TV from the Surge Protector waited a few minutes then plugged it back in.
Now I can’t even turn the TV on. The red LED that shows it is in “Standby Mode” doesn’t even light up.
This is what I did:
I first unplugged the HDTV (Element FLX-3202) from the Surge Protector waited about 20 minutes and plugged it back into the wall outlet. Same thing happens; cant turn on the TV and red LED doesn’t light up.
I then check the breakers in my home and plug a DVD player in the same outlet I Plugged the TV into. There is power to the DVD player so there is not an issue with the breakers.
I then call the HDTV Element FLX-3202’s “Electronic Consumer Care Center” and talk to this guy. I tell him my problem and he told me to unplug the TV then plug it back in like I did before. I did that and still the same thing happened. He then told me to pop out the tab were the fuse is, located in the back of the TV were the power cord plugs in. I popped it out, checked it, wasn’t blown (tried replacing it and the same thing still happens). I asked him if worst comes to worst and I can’t get the TV working what can I do. He told me I can take it back to Home Depot and exchange it for a new one or get my money back. I then asked him if I could just send it back to the company that made it and they could just ship me a new one. He told me that because of these TV’s being such a new product, the company doesn’t have any “Services” set up for this TV yet. I told him well I just bought this yesterday and its under Warrantee, something should be done right away. He then told me he needed to talk to his supervisor about this and put me on hold.
(Just to let you know the guy on the phone was cool, there is nothing against him). While I was on hold, I called Home Depot and asked if they had any of the HDTV Element FLX-3202’s still in stock knowing that there was no way with this being a Black Friday only sale. She said no way, every Home Depot store is sold out of them. Then finally the guy from the “Electronics Consumer Care Center” gets back with me and says that his supervisor can set an Independent Repair Man out in my area and fix the problem.
He said it would take quite some time to do so though.
The conversation basically ended from there.
So here I am now talking to the real professionals :)
I tried a few more things…
I unplugged all inputs from the HDTV (Element FX-3202) then plugged the power cord back in and it still did the same thing.
I tried plugging the VGA out from the PC to the VGA in on the TV and powering up the PC thinking maybe it will fix something since the problem happened when I turned off the PC. Still nothing…
Technically this sounds like a power failure but I really don’t think it is because the TV just froze. Like a said before when it froze there was a black screen (not blank meaning there was still a display on the LCD) and the blue LED on the right hand corner indicating that the TV is still on was still lit. Then when I unplugged it and plugged it back in I couldn’t even turn the TV on. The red LED that shows it is in “Standby Mode” didn’t even light up. So I’m thinking the whole system is frozen or locked up.
Now I might be crazy thinking this but I do know quite a bit about PC’s and I think HDTV’s have there own type of motherboard with their own type of software to run.
Knowing this, is there maybe some type of CMOS reset jumper in the TV itself or maybe another fuse that I can check if I open up the TV? Anything at all, thoughts, ideas, anything. I would greatly appreciate it. There is nothing that can really be done for the HDTV (Element FLX-3202) yet so I might be on my own but with your guys help :)
Thanks…
