I bougth a Akai PDP-4294 and when I try to turn it on it flashes 5 red lights, is this a service code or what

Yes, that's usually a code for what's wrong. Try looking in the troubleshooting section of the operating manual (usually near the back) to see if that tells you.
If not, try unplugging the TV for a while to see if it resets when you plug it back in. See the HDTV FAQ "Things to check first".
Then, if that doesn't work, call a technican who may know what the code signifies. If it's under warranty, have them fix it.
