Greeting To All:

The forum is great, I have learned quite a bit in the few days I have been reading everyones posts.

I am in the market for a HDTV widesreen monitor. The one I am leaning towards is the Mitsubishi Gold Series WT-A42311. This model seems to have every thing I want. My couch is 9' from the front of the screen. I need to know on e if the screen size is right for that distance. (42"*2= 84" dist to couch 108") the math seems right I just wanted some opinions. Second I know that the site does not push one brand over the other. I just wanted any input if this is a good model or should I keep looking. The price I saw it for was 1999.99 w/stand.

Thanks for any information

David

David:
I can't find the thread where some of us were discussing distance recently, but 9' sounds good to me for a 42" screen. I had a 50" Toshiba and sat 9' away and it was fine. With the new 51" Hitachi widescreen I moved the couch back another foot to 10' away, though even at 9' it wasn't bad.

Of course, you might not be as blind as me..........hehe :D

A good friend of mine purchased the WT-42311. Once he got it into his house it did seem small. With the widescreen tv it seems smaller than the 4:3 used to be. He returned it for the 48". I would really look at the WS-48311 or the WS-48511. I think you can get the 42" at a better price than 1999. Were are you shoping? I got the WS-55511 for 2500 so you need to negotiate. Tell me where you are shoping I might be able to help. I really think you can go with the 48" and have no problem--especially with the quality of the PICTURE. Good luck

I measured the screen sizes of both and made mock ups the 48" is my choice. The Mits model ws-48311 is the one I like. The price is 1999.99 @ Best Buy. Is that a good price, it seems Tweeter also has it for that price. Any hints on geeting a better price.

Still Learning

You will be happy that you went with the 48". Usually Tweeter will move a little on price. More so on the bigger ones but believe me, they have room to move. Be bold and ask them, all they can say is no. If they know you are looking elsewhere and at other brands that they do not carry they will move. What they don't know won't hurt them. Also look at who has the best price on the extended warrenty. I suggest the 5 year. I feel it is worth it. Read some threads on the subjuct if you are not sure. Good luck I hope I have helped. Also read the FAQ on the front page if you have not already.

my biggest advice to you if you are just getting in to this stuff is never go to best buy again....find the higher end stores in your area, they still have mitsubishi (good choice) but will bargain..some of the tweeter stores will bargain as well...if you go 42 inch then dont pay more than 1750 with stand...if you go with 48 inch do get the 48511 the extra money is worth the added benefits (net command, havi, atsc tuner, firewire or ieee1394, vga input, etc)
