Does anyone currently (or in the future) manufacture a DVI to Component Cable for HDTV? If this is possible, would this not solve the problem for those of us who bought HD's before Dvi came about?

Yes and here is a LINK (http://www.avmall.com/kore/catalog/Accessories/Cables/TE9UCRIHLO1H355CLRWD/product.html) to a 5 meter cable. They have shorter ones too.
Take a look at the link. In one place it says DVI to component and in another says connects component video to DVI input. Probably just a typo and its DVI > component.
I'll let someone else explain if this solves any problems.
Also, explain how they convert 'digital to analog' or 'analog to digital' with just a cable?? or did i miss something?

There are a number of DVI formats that are available. If your STB supports a DVI-D (digital) connection, you will not be able to use just a cable.
That does not mean you are out of luck. There are conversion boxes becoming available that will convert a DVI-D signal to an analog signal you can connect to your HDTV with component cables.

Jester, the link in your post seems to be bad.
Important: In DVI like anything else, Analog only talks to analog, and digital only talks to digital. Don't try using a DFP or DVI-D (Digital only) monitor through an adapter to a VGA (analog) viddeo card, it will not work! While converters are possible, nobody has any on the market. The problems with making a cost effective "Generic" analog/digital converter which would support a very wide range of monitors and video cards is apparantly too great.

My Toshiba calls for a DVI-D single link cable. So my original post in this thread is incorrect. Yes there are DVI to component cables but they are not for the DVI-D output (digital) of a STB to the component input (analog) of a HD RPTV. It would require a D to A converter. The quote talks about going from an analog source to the DVI-D (digital) input of a monitor. Similiar problem going the other way, digital to analog.
I don't have a DVI source to play with so I don't have any first hand experience. :(

Does your source device (e.g. sat-box, cable-box, etc) have component outputs on it? If it does then you might be better off using that rather than convert DVI-D to component. The conversion box may have cheaper DAC components in it and give a poor video quality as compared to your source devices component output.
One other thing, if your source device uses HDCP, then your conversion box will not work when HDCP is enabled. I would check with the manufacturer of your source device to see how they have implemented HDCP before I spend any money.
