Most Best Buys could care less what Tv you purchase....They don't work on commision. Do your homework and as long as they have what your looking for, you can buy it anywhere. Not for nothing HDExpert, that whole "doing my best to dispell all the bull....stuff that is being spread by the best buys and circuit cities of the world" that's a little too much. What are you, the new HDTV superhero. You may know alot but I think you are laying it on a little thick.

now see...thats why the post was labeled "administrators please read" if you were an administrator you would realize the extent of the bad information given by the chain stores to the consumers...but, you are entitled to your opinions and if you like that type of store shop there..in any event calm down i dont come to these sites to argue with people i dont know i am trying to get the correct information out there..as there is alot of incorrect........if it makes you feel better then i retract the best buy and circuit city portion of my original statement

im with IOStinks on this one. You can't come in here with a name like that and not expect some friction. We've got our own panel of information resources here (57U and ZeroDeGreek to name a couple) and they aren't waving any expert flags or mission statements, so spare us, please.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
It seems none of you can win here. The number one complaint I hear about retailers on this website is a combination of "that 17 year old working at Circuit City/Best Buy/etc sold me the wrong equipment and doesn't know what he's talking about" and "that fast talking 25 year old at the Home Theatre Store/Magnolia Hi-Fi/Ultimate Electronics/Tweeter (who used to work at a Circuit City/Best Buy/etc) sold me the pricier wrong equipment..."
Now as for what IOStinks mentions about Best Buy who "...could not care less what TV you purchase..." you're right. I know of very few salesmen from ANY retail store who give much of a damn about their customers...commissioned salesmen typically have a imaginary dollar sign held drifting above the customers head, and non-commissioned salesmen see you as something to keep them busy until they can clock out. OF COURSE commissioned salesmen are going to hold more information on products on average...without people like stillearning spending money with THEM at THEIR store, those guys will be out of a job.
It seems hdexpert has quite a bone to pick with Best Buy...twice today you've referred to this place as a source of "sub par information." Very recently Best Buy has been aggressivly pursuing the idea of buying out Tweeter AND/OR Ultimate Electronics, and they already own Magnolia Hi-Fi (Sam Goody and Suncoast, though they aren't in the A/V industry). It's going to be tough to ignore such an entertainment empire, as they are increasing by around 50-60 stores/year under the big yellow sign alone.
Each person has their place, though. I would literally have to wring the neck of a salesman at a commisioned-based store just to share some information with me about something small...like a 13" TV, a cheap universal remote control. You'll find people at non-commissioned people typically willing to help just about anybody with the same sort of motivation...now if you've got a store chocked full of poorly motivated people, you shouldn't expect much.
And as stillearning was trying to share with everybody, a commissioned salesman is just as likely to be incorrect about new technologies as a non-commissioned salesman. Ultimate Electronics is one of the few retailers I know of who actually trains their employees by having them set the equipment up in their store. The stores in the market I live in did so for nearly a month before the store opened.
Commissioned or not, tons of these salesmen don't/can't afford the equipment they are selling you...so there are ALWAYS going to be mistakes. A place such as HDTVoice.com should be sought to whenever somebody has a particular question about "What does this do in my TV's menu?" or "I heard about such-and-such...is it true?"
But by all means I hope people do not make serious financial investments solely based on what "hdexpert" or "BadCamper" or anybody else for that matter makes.

no criticism, my friend! I'm just being blatantly honest about things.
You haven't given me a reason to criticize you yet...as you haven't called me a "Nazi" or "Maggot" yet, hahaha!

oops forgot to add one thing, no i dont have a bone to pick with best buy....in fact i buy there quite often...as you said 13 inch tvs, or dvds, headphones and such.....i just think you should actually purchase at the stores that give you better information and better pricing on the "big stuff"...and like i said i really am not trying to start a fight..in fact i was trying to be helpful...i did however go back and read my posts and i realize that i do indeed sound like i am going to go and get all unibomber on all the local chain stores...lol sorry about that it wasnt my intention

hdexpert,
I do find you're handle 'conceited' and I think that as a newbie you should not profess that you are the all-knowing Oz of HDTV.
As stated earlier, there are quite a few individuals on this forum that have no need to boast about their knowledge. They also share info freely and without a 'thank you' many many times.
I find that your posting is boasting. If you wanted to offer your expert services, why didn't you just PM or E-mail the Admins?
Sorry to offend you, but you should have expected some flak. We all encourage new sources of information and we all want to have fun here. Just don't start off thinking that you're the best.
I don't contend to be an expert in anything, but I do know a lot and can share my knowledge and experiences to hopefully help others. I don't brag about it...
I you would/could... please share with us your credentials and background that qualifys you for this seat in the senate.
"Can't we all just get along?" <G>
Seriously folks..........as a a/v junkie since I bought my first transistor radio and reel to reel tape deck back in the 60's, I've enjoyed this site more than anything the past few weeks.
I think we all learn by just reading what other people have gone through or what equipment they've tried in setting up their HD system at home. Aside from some occasional name-calling, this is a great site for those of us fortunate enough to have equipment that some folks just dream about owning or can't afford.
I'll step off my soapbox now.........back to your regularly scheduled programming.........

lol...i am really gonna enjoy this site....thanks to all those that welcomed me.....and to those of you that already dont like me...GOOD.....i really do know alot on the subject although i have already agreed that my chosen name was conceited, so no offense taken.....i have also learned from this site already, and as someone pointed out i am a newbie to the site...as to my credentials, i have worked the retail side, at a place called audio concepts. i did start out at circuit city....i have worked for directv.....and my brother works for cbs....not the grandest of credentials, but i am also an enthusiast, which is the best of all...i have owned mitsubishi, sony, elite, and loewe hd equipment and i liked it all....i really would like to own one of the new samsung dlp sets but i have been brainwashed my whole life that samsung is crap (if it is, it sure looks good for crap)...so in short i will keep posting any pertinent info that i have..if someone wants to use it, great, because a smart buyer is an informed one....i will always listen to constructive criticism (like badcamper) and always make fun of childish remarks (i believe stilllearning called me hd exjerk) boy was that original.....dont worry this is the only really long message you folks will see outta me

I could care less what you call yourself..I am not an expert but just someone with a big interest in this hobby. What pisses me of is the self professesed experts that are quick to correct what you write but do not give any real help out themselves.
There are people on this sight that I see often on others. They volunteer there knowledge to be helpfull not to brag or look for praise. This is a hobby not a career.

kevinw, you rock! So does 57U & all the other morerators. In fact, this site rocks! Thanks guys.
BTW I feel lucky. I have a salesman at Circuit City who I've been dealing with for years. He has never steered he wrong & in fact he gave me the CORRECT info about HDTV.
Humming along to 'Why Can't We Be Friends?'. Trying to remember what DVD had the 'Chubs Chubs'. Ice Age?
What do you call a man who's out standing in his field?
BTW, welcome hdexpert.
