"Langhorne, PA, --- NxtWave Communications Inc., (nxtwavecomm.com) a developer of broadband communications integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the first multimode VSB/QAM receiver chip that delivers
error-free indoor and mobile reception of broadcast digital signals to digital televisions (DTVs), PCs and digital set-top boxes. Designated the NXT2000, the physical layer (PHY) device overcomes static and dynamic
multipath interference typical in broadcast transmissions and provides the highest reliability and performance available."

Just to remind you how time flys. This press release along with a few others from other players with similar "innaccuracies" was published on August 24th 1999. Notice the "error-free indoor and mobile reception" part.
This was to counter the Sinclair test being done at the time. 8-VSB proponents have always had a "fix" in the wings that would take care of all the problems. So far the "fix" has not shown up in real products.
Those blatant lies along with similar falsehoods perpetuated against COFDM DVB-T helped get them past the embarrasing Congressional hearings of the summer of 2000.
Then came the "fixed" MSTV test done in secret in the fall of 2000 followed by the springing of the rigged data in Jaunuary of 2001, the NAB/MSTV manipulated broadcaster vote and the outgoing FCC Chairman's legacy to the American people of reaffirming 8-VSB in his last hour in office.

Things have been very quiet since then. I think they would like us to forget that the MSTV test OF 2000 said that 8-VSB was an unmitigated disaster that did not satify its minimum requirment that it at least match the
receivability of the venerable 50 year old NTSC system. We are also supposed to forget that they were going to "fix" 8-VSB so that it would match NTSC, would be able to deliver a mobile service and would do better
at what THEY SAID ABOVE IN 1999 THEY HAD ALREADY DONE, "error-free indoor and mobile reception".

Promises, promises; fake test then lies, lies and then absolute quite. What is next? You don't want to know but anyone who still beleives anything these folks do or say deserves it. It is almost spring can another "miracle
chip" be far behind?

What I hear is coming is hardly recognizable 8-VSB modulation that has two channels. One called the non- robust channel will handle 9 to 12 Mbps of bandwidth (substantially less than the "bit challenged" 19.34 Mbps that HDTV "requires" according to those making these changes. There is another "robust" channel that will not be receivable with current and past receivers (so much for compatability)that handles 4 to 5 Mbps. This is supposed to allow mobile but the inside info says no way.

If you want to know what happened to the other bits (9 and 12 plus either 4 or 5 Mbps do not add up to 19.34 Mbps) they were sacrificed on the altar of multicasting and datacasting. That is what the broadcasters want and that is what they were promised for their vote in favor of 8-VSB last year. Of course they were promised mobile to.
