I'm puzzled as to why I cannot get sound to output from my DVD player. I can get sound via digital coax output but not from the HDMI cable.

Furthermore, if the DVD in particular has DTS sound, sound is also not playable even through the digital coax.

My receiver is quite capable of decoding DTS hence why I don't understand what the issue is.

I'm relatively new to all of this stuff so maybe it's something I'm doing or not setup correctly.

DVD Player: Yamaha DV-S5950
AV Receiver: Yamaha HTR-6090
TV: Sony KDS55A2000

Thanks!

Have you been through all the setup menus to configure your audio output?

Some players can only do PCM (and not bitstream) via HDMI - that may be why it works for coaxial and not HDMI. As mentioned above, you need to properly set the output for the audio connections, probably outlined in the owners manual.

Thanks for your replies. It was indeed settings in the DVD player. Yamaha instructions are not the most user friendly.

Settings as follows:

Digital Audio Output = ALL

HDMI Audio = ON
