View Full Version : Getting 4:3 in 480p: Akai LCT4662

For some reason, this TV disables the screen format option when dealing with any signal better than 480i. It will not change from the "Fill Screen" option. This is a huge pain when watching TV shows on DVD or playing games. There were a few occasions where, for some unknown reason, it selected the 4:3 format on its own, so I know it's perfectly capable of doing what I need it to.

I thought about poking around in the service menu, but the code (mute, 1, 8, 2, power) doesn't work on this one. Any help is appreciated.

Some HDTVs have an "auto-aspect" or "auto-stretch" function in the user menu. You may wish to turn it off if possible. Also, for DVDs simply send a 480i signal to the TV. DVDs are 480i after all.

Also, check the menu in the DVD player. Some have a 4:3 mode and it should be set to not stretch if that's what you want for 4:3 or non-anamorphic DVDs.. This is not the same as the "TV type setting" which should be 16:9 for 16:9 TVs.

See the HDTV FAQs.

- Black Bars
- Widescreen Stretch Modes.
- Anamorphic DVDs
- Etc.
