View Full Version : Check your DVRs - DST started 2AM Sunday

For many people DST (Daylight saving time) started this morning. This has played havoc with some DVRs. Check your time on Sunday morning to see if it's correct and check your scheduled recordings (all of them). Sometimes only certain types of recordings (like timeslot ones) may be incorrect.

Your service provider should have sent out an appropriate patch for the firmware, however, we all know how well that goes the first time around. ;)

If something is amiss, try a cold reboot first (unplug/replug)

It's 4AM EDT and everything's fine here. My computer time is OK, My STBs are all on the correct time and my scheduled recordings all appear to be OK.

I happened to be looking at my DVR at 1:59 and the time simply changed to 3:00 - great.

My STB switched right from 1:59 to 03:00. Good job Comcast.

My old NT PC I applied the DST patch too also worked fine!

OT...sorta...I wasn't aware this new 'law' affected the great white north eh? So the world follows the U.S.A in their time keeping?

I record Without A Trace (9:00 pm MST), Dresden Files (10:00 pm), and Rome (10:00 pm) on Sunday nights. Because we don't change times here, Dresden Files and Rome are now also on at 9:00 pm. This created a 3-recording conflict. In the past, all 3 recordings would have been missed because of the conflict, but this time 1 of the 3 (Rome) was automatically cancelled to avoid the conflict. So, even with the apparent DST fixes, there are still cases where schedules might need to be double-checked. :)

Although they've obviously added some conflict resolution to SARA (based on a previous test I believe it was actually added in 1.88.x.x), they still don't have a visible scheme that is user controlled like Tivo's/Passport's priority settings. :(

So the world follows the U.S.A in their time keeping? No, but most of Canada does, otherwise we would be out of step for 3 weeks in Spring and 1 week in Fall causing havoc with schedules for planes, trains, all businesses.

Some areas of Canada (parts of Saskatchewan) do not change to DST at all (farmer objections).

If it were up to me, we'd have DST all year - no time change needed at all.
