Hi,
Is it necessary to purchase a Receiver along with a Plasma TV? I understand that it will greatly enhance the watching experience, but in general, does everyone buy a Receiver with their TV's?

Do you mean an audio receiver? Not everyone buys one. Audio is a very important part of the experience as you noted. It is up to you if you like the sound produced by 2 small speakers or a full fledged surround sound. BTW Plasma has nothing to do with audio.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I meant an audio receiver. I just wanted to hear what people's thoughts were on purchasing an audio receiver with their TV (Plasma just happens to be what I am purchasing)
I basically was wondering if the salesman was trying to push something that I don't really need.

He was pushing something you MAY need and will want eventually. Like purchasing anything research first buy later. Once you pick out the TV you want. Then research for an A/V system. Do not impulse buy because of a salesperson. The Salesperson may be giving you good advice but then again most likely just trying to boost the sale.
