More research has led me to the 1080P DLP's with LED engine/lamp vs. the color wheel & lamp. I haven't found additional information to confirm but would guess that this would further push the DLP's ahead of the LCD's by eliminating both real or imagined "rainbow" issues previously caused by the color wheel. My husband seems to think DLP's are out and LCD's are in but I think he is just WRONG.

They look promising. Here is a review of Samsung's:
http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/hdtvs/1958/samsung-hl-s5679w-56-inch-led-dlp-hdtv.html
Summary of review:
Plus
•Rich, natural color
•No DLP “rainbow” effect or need to replace a lamp
•Wide range of connection options
•Innovative onscreen menu system
Minus
•Poor screen uniformity
•Limited shadow detail
•Expensive compared to competition
I have read elsewhere that the LED lamps are supposed to have a 20,000 hour life. The premium price for these units would buy a lot of bulbs for my RPLCD tv.

:thankyou3
I'm looking at the 50" since it is for the bedroom and since I'm a novice compared to many of y'all . . . I try my best to get the most bang for my buck and something that isn't OLD technology although I'm not an early adopter or whatever they are called either.

For a 50" RPTV, my vote would go to the Sony SXRD (LCoS) technology:
- Good colours
- Good blacks
- Good shadow details
- 1080P
- Highly tweakable
- Etc.

I just looked a few of those up after reading your reply. WOW I was afraid to even look after having previously looking at the Bravia that the price would be too high for me but the 50" SXRD models I found aren't bad at all. All the Sony model numbers are hard to remember and keep straight. I had my heart set on a Sony and thought I'd be getting a Samsung but I just might could swing one of these. Are many of the exta tweaks you mention part of the IRIS controls? Thanks~! :smokin:

The "iris" is only one of the controls. Depending on the model, there are quite a number of "advanced" functions in the user menu. I mostly use the (normal) user menu for setups, however, I usually turn the various edge enhancements to low or off depending on the TV and the client. This is in the "custom" mode for the SXRD which is saved for each input - another good feature.

I have the HL-S5679W which is the first DLP/LCD it's been Calibrated by Eliab from Avical.com the picture is beautiful the colors are perfect it's hooked up to a Denon 3806 the HR20 DirecTV and Samsungs HDDVD A2 the picture is pristine on the TV and even more so with the HDDVD this TV has the best picture out of all my TV's I have the Sony 60" and the Panasonic Plasma 42" all Calibrated by Eliab. If your looking for a new TV I highly recommend the Samsungs DLP/LCD even before it was Calibrated the colors we're awesome I'm just really into the Calibration because there is just a huge difference after a Calibration and I figure we all spend so much for our Theaters and to spend the extra $400.00 is so worth it once the picture is Calibrated you never have to mess with the colors again when you change the chanel it's all good. :-)

Did you do the Avia before hiring Elab? Just curious.

I missed the 10% off sale at Best Buy . . . had in my cart Saturday and sale price was gone on Sunday. Seems the 55" is more plentiful at the B&M stores around here than the 50" and over 50" is pushing it. Hopefully I will have one bought and delivered before Mother's Day~!

I agree w/ 57u, Sony is making the best in projection tv's right now.
