Help!

I have a hdtv ready Samsung widescreen tv. It doesn't have a VGA plug to accept my RCA100 HDTV signals from DirecTV.

Is there an adaptor????

--> This Review (http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0-16332-405-1851758-1.html?tag=rating) discusses just this issue in paragraphs 4 & 6. They don't say how to get around it though...

Perhaps someone else here has the answer.

Hasn't someone on this forum encountered this issue and solved it?

Doctorfish, while you're waiting for our response, if you haven't done so already, check out the FAQ section, 7th one down on the home page...

Yes, it is called a transcoder. It will take a VGA (RGB) signal and transcode it to a component output. They are very popular with users of home theater PCs and HDTVs.

Right now there are three on the market. A search for VGA transcoder will probably show you the two most popular. However, RCA also makes one that is a bit harder to find. I just ran into some on eBay not too long ago however, and they were reasonable (less than $50). Prices for the other transcoders start at about $100 and go up from there.

Doctorfish, you could go to a store like GoodGuys and buy a cable to convert the VGA connector to RGBHV. The cable might convert it to BNC connectors, but you could also buy some connector barrels to convert BNC to RCA. Then you'll have a cable to go from VGA to 5 RCA connectors (RGBHV). Of course your TV will have to support RGBHV. If not, you'll probably have to get a different cable then.

The cable costs around $50 or so. Then the BNC converters are a few bucks too if you need them.

The DTC converts some signals to 540p. I think that's why when you use the above cable to your TV, your picture might be a bit skewed to one side. You'll have to shift it a bit back to the left.

Interesting article below.
Check out the part titled "DTV Set Top Receiver Boxes"
http://www.decoratingstudio.com/archives/hometheaterarticles/dtv_article.htm

"The DTC100 does not upconvert the standard definition DTV(e.g., 480I, 480P, etc.) formats to 1080I as do some other DTV receivers. Rather the RCA/Proscan STBs will convert standard Directv programming, standard analog broadcasts, and the standard resolution DTV formats of to a non-standard format of 540P."
