I wonder if a HDTV bought in USA can be used without a problem in Europe. It was impossible before because of PAL and NTSC formats.

I think that with an external source and proper interfaces it's fine. Internal tuners (QAM or 8VSB/ATSC) will probably not be compatible in some countries as they may use COFDM.
