Okay I bought the floor model because the manager said there was nothing wrong with it, instead of paying $2,200, I got it for $1,700. They told me the warranty is the same as buying one in the box. So i bring it home in march of 07, its only 2 months old now, and everything seemed to work fine, then today i heard a noise come from the tv and i walked in the room and realized the sound was gone. I have tried everything, i disconnected the cable box and plugged the cable in directly, still no sound.
I was wondering if anyone knows what may have gone wrong. When i turn the volume up full blast i can hear static and faint voices. Is there something Im not doing? Or is there a fuse that blew out, and if it did, why do i hear noise when i turn it up full blast? :sobbing:

Try unplugging the TV for a while and plug it back in to see if it resets. See:

Good Luck.

okay i will try that today, but i did call the cable company and had them reboot the cable box, with no change. I also disconnected the cable box and plugged the cable in directly with no change. I found out that my when i turned on the dvd player i do have sound so to me that eliminates a speaker problem. But i did notice my tv showing a weak signal from the antennae, which i believe could be causing the volume to not work, do you think this could cause that problem? Is it possible the cable wire is bad, if so then why do i have a good picture but no sound?

OK, you need to get us more details. You didn't mention the DVD player works and the cable box doesn't in the first post - this sort of information is essential to track down the problem.

1. What is the make/model of the TV, the cable STB, and the DVD player.

2. How is the STB connected to the TV - which cables

3. How is the DVD player connected to the TV - which cables.

4. I'm assuming there is no A/V Receiver involved.

If the STB is connected via RF-coax, try connecting it with another connection like composite cable for video and analogue audio (red/white) for audio.

It is a JVC HD-56FN97 56" HDTV, I'm sorry I do not understand what a stb is. The dvd player is a sony about 1 year old. I disconnected the cable box and also unplugged the tv as you asked. I plugged the cable directly in to the tv this time to eliminate the cable box, still no sound. The dvd player is plugged in through the back of the tv with the red yellow and white (?) cable that came with the dvd player. Please dont get frustrated with me not knowing alot about electronics, i honestly dont know but am trying to help you to help me :) Anyway i also took the cable wire from other tv's to replace the cable wire and still no sound. I am baffled at this, it seems like it should be simple but its not. Also when i turn the volume up full blast i hear alot of static and faint voices, its as if its on the edge of trying to come in but its not :(
Oh i almost forgot, no there are no other receivers. And thank you for helping me with this, i know its hard to teach me :sightv: , im big screen tv illiterate

STB = Set Top Box (your cable box). What is the make/model? How is it connected to the TV? In order to have us help you, you need to understand the connections. See the various connection types, explanations in the link in my previous post and see my sentence after point 4.

Why is your 1 year old DVD player hooked to the TV via yellow (composite video) and red/white (analogue audio). It should likely be connected with component video cables for the best picture quality - I assume the DVD player has component video outputs - you need to give us the exact model number.

It sounds like you need some professional assistance to set this all up properly. People don't usually build their own houses, or service their cars, but they expect to be able to "build" their Home theatres with little or no knowledge?

I dont expect to "build" my own home theatre, the issue here is that i did have everything hooked up right, perfect picture perfect sound, i dont think it has anything to do with my cables, they were working just fine before my volume decided to go out. I could understand you saying that if i was just hooking this thing up, but it has been up and running for a couple months now like brand new.
I didnt ask for sarcasm, just a lil help . Sorry i bothered you :headscrat

...i did have everything hooked up right, perfect picture perfect soundAlthough you may have had things hooked up and had sound and picture, it's highly doubtful that you had perfect picture and perfect sound. Most DVD players have component video connections which are far better than composite video (yellow cable) - the way you had it hooked up. You never gave me the model number of the DVD player.

You never responded to my questions regarding how you had your cable STB hooked to the TV. If this was via an RF-coax cable, that is also not the best way. You also didn't respond to my question regarding the make/model of the cable STB (at this time, we don't even know if it's an HD STB or simply SD).

We are trying to help you, but you need to understand that there are many ways to hook up the equipment and without the make and model number of the equipment, there's no way I can help you. I was not being sarcastic, I was being realistic based on your responses. I understand your frustration. Did you read the link in post 4 to see the various ways that items can be connected?

Also, the hookup is only one part of the overall equation. The TV needs to be set up properly for each input/device. See the following link:

http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=1440

I know that this is way more complicated that you probably thought it could be, and although you can hook things up and they will "work", whether they are working correctly or optimally, is a different matter.

You have a very good HDTV, for which you spent good money, however, I'm wondering if you're watching anything on it in true HD. Without proper connections, proper devices and proper setup, you will have wasted your money on the TV.

Please provide us with the information requested and we'll try to help you. Or you can get professional setup/connection assistance.

Contact the retailer you bought if from and ask for a service call under warranty to check the volume issue. When someone comes to check it ask them to look at the way all your components are connected. They might help you out if something could be connected better.

Read the FAQ's. After you have read them, ask friends, neighbors and coworkers who have HDTV's if they are willing to come and check out your connections.
