Well I did it - I broke down and bought my first big screen TV tonight. I was looking at the Mitsubishi WS-55711 and went into Sound Advice here in Tampa and found last year's 55" model for a great deal. I got the WS-55909 for $2800 with a 5 year warranty! My set will be here in a few days, and I came home to read the manual right away.

But I am concerned with how to setup my new toy. Bear with me as I am new to this. Right now my Sony receiver is the center of my current setup. I have a DVD player, Tivo, VCR, Cable and an Xbox. All feed into my receiver - video and audio.

My digital cable box goes into my Tivo then to the reciever, and the Tivo out goes to the receiver. The VCR is direct to the receiver, the DVD and Xbox are direct to the receiver. All use composite connections. I have one composite connection out to the TV. My Xbox and DVD player also feed digital optical signals to my receiver for surround, and currently I have this on a switchbox to switch from DVD to Xbox.

My question is, looking at the back of my new Mitsu, It resembles my receiver greatly. From what I understand, the cable company (Time Warner) is going to swap out my digital cable box with an HD capable cable box so I can get a couple HD channels. I also want to get HD channels OTA.

I plan on buying a progressive scan DVD player and putting my current one in another room.

So I will have this:

- DVD with component and digital audio out
- Cable box with component and composite video out
- A Tivo, which I want to use to record regular cable channels
- An Xbox

- I'll move the VCR to another room...this is 2003!

Quick questions for those who may know:

Do the HD cable boxes the companies provide have digital audio out? Coax or Optical?

Can I run the component video to the TV, the digital audio to my reciever, and the composite audio/video to the Tivo, and then the Tivo to the TV via composite or S-Video???

When I buy an antenna for getting HD OTA broadcasts, I plug that coax straight into DTV-ANT and then use the digital audio coax out to my reciever???

And my Xbox and DVD player? I know that the two component video outputs on these can go straight in the TV, but what abou those two digital audio feeds? I have 4 digital audio feeds (cable??, OTA, xbox, dvd) and only two inputs on my reciever (1 optical 1 coax)

What should I do? Can anyone describe a similar setup? Help me please! I also want all this to work with the NetCommand system if possible.

Well I can answer the question about the Cable Box, it has a coax digital audio out. As for the two components be careful as I remember last years Mitsus only having one HiDef Component input and the other would only accpet 480i/480p.

You have all the connections listed correctly. You may also want to think about running coax from the cable box into the TV from the cable box as it will help your picture tremendously on the non digital channels. The Xbox you have you can use component connections but make sure the output is set to 480p and you would have to share this input with your DVD player (with a switch discussed in several other threads). The xbox can output hidef at 720p (which your tv will not accept) or with certain games 1080i (which you would have to share the input with your cable box via a switch)
