I'm new to hdtv and I've just sold my 50" non hdtv
pioneer set. I've got about $6000.00 to spend on
a set. I'm considering the pioneer pro720 or a sony xbr65 or going cheap and waiting on plasma prices to drop. Anybody got any advice on these tv's or any other in that range.

In that range I would consider looking at a 9" CRT display. I'm not as familiar with the models you mentioned, but the Zenith IQB64W10W is an exceptional RPTV. However, have you considered looking at Front Projectors? Might I suggest checking out the AVScience CRT Forum (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=16) or perhaps the ACScience DLP, LCD D-ILA forum (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=24)? You'll find some excellent information there on some of the specific projectors, front and rear, available.

.....if you are wanting to spend that much on a RPTV or the Mitsubishi Diamond Series. I totally agree with the last member that for that price range you might want to consider a DLP front projector. That is alot of money to spend on a TV...I am not sure you would have to spend that much to get what you want, but if you want to take that step up from the basic / moderate, go for it. I am not sure what the plasma sets are priced at now, but sounds like you are close. Do some reading and more importantly, some viewing. I have been shopping for a long time.....have fun and good luck.

I would look at a DLP Rear projector like the
Panasonic PT-52DL10 - 52"

Hitachi 55DMX 2000 - 55"

Mitsubishi WD-6500 - 65"

Also, Samsung and Zenith will soon have HDTV's out using DLP.

DLP has better brightness and resolution than Plasma. the only advantage to plasma is its size.

I have the Panasonic PT-52DL10, ant it is less then 18" deep, so it is not huge either.

The front projectors are nice too, and they have some 3-DLP chip systems that have enormous brightness, but probably have enormous prices as well.
