I set up my 65" HD Mits. in the basement recently. I put a $7 set of rabbit ears on top just for kicks, and I'll be darned if I didn't pull in about 5 HD Network channels. I am missing ABC and CBS, but I'm guessing with a bit of tweaking, I'll have them all!!! Couldn't believe it. I"m psyched!
Leno was fantastic in HD. . .very clear. Ed and Frasier were so-so.

I am located in Brownsburg, IN which is just west of Indianapolis. I believe I'm about 10 miles or so from the broadcasts. . .
I now am going to post a question about why I can't get ABC or CBS? My signal tester through my Hughes receiver says I get the analog signals at 100%. . .why not the HD?

I am in Baltimore and was able to bring them all in with the Samsung OTA receiver and a set of rabbit ears....I used the amplified rabbit ears.
However, I returned the reciever and switched to HD cable.

I might just have to try the amplified rabbit ears and see what happens. I can't figure out why I would not be getting these stations if I get the others, as they are all located within a close distance to each other.

i hear different reactions to the amplified antennas.. on one hand i hear they help out and you get better reception, on the other hand i hear they don't amplify to get a better reception, but rather amplify the signal it gets to send it further along your wiring.. meaning, if you're getting poor reception, you're just amplifying the poor reception..

fkneon,
I can tell you this......if I turned the on/off/variable knob that controls the power to the antenna.......to off or even 50% strength.....I would lose channels.
It worked for me.
My rabbit ears cost me about $30.....you are welcome to use them as a test - I am not using them at the moment.

thanks for the generous offer.. at the moment i've got a new antenna on the way that i'm going to give a shot in my attic, and if need be, i'll move it to the roof when the weather warms up..

Have you had bad luck with this antenna? I have one and it's OK, not great but I really need a fringe antenna where I am anyway...

I was using amplified rabbit ears, for my one local, NBC-DT. I'm about 15 miles from transmitter. Getting frequent picture and sound break-up. Just got a "Silver Sensor". Watched the NBC movie, last night. Rock solid for three hours. Also, I am now receiving a low powered independent. Nothing worth watching; but an indication of good reception.

Clapple, what is a "Silver Sensor"? Who makes it? How much? Where did you get it?
I'm going to replace my rabbit ears in the basement for both functional and cosmetic reasons. Just looking at what my options are, and might as well try to boost my signal while I'm at it. I will definitely be doing an Indoor only antenna.
thanks,
Justin

JustinS,
Got my Silver Sensor at Circut City. $39.95. I understand they are cheaper, from some internet sources; but thought the ability to return it, if it didn't work, was worth paying list price.

Hello, I'm a complete newbie to the whole HDTV thing having just bought a Mits WS-55511 (should be delivered today 3/03) :)
I'm having Comcast HD "installed" on Thursday even though it's extremely limited right now in what they offer. I'm also going to use an old roof mounted antenna that was with this house when I bought it 11 years ago. Hopefully that'll suffice for the OTA channels, but may need a little tweaking for my area (zip code 21222).
Anyway, I'm real excited about joining the HDTV "family" and will definately be checking this forum for advice and suggestions!

leadvocal,
Welcolme. 21222? What part of Dundalk are you from?
I had Comcast HD installed and I like it. Except for CSN but that is another story!

Thanks for the welcome Bill. I'm from the Eastfield section, over by Merritt Park shopping center.
Got my new WS-55511 today. Need to read the book and adjust some things. The picture definately needs tweaking!

remember, they typically ship with the contrast set all the way up.. also, all the options you have to adjust the video are saved for each antenna/input. if you're on dtv and make adjustments, they won't be adjusted on ant-A, etc. tweak them individually.. in addition, check the convergence..
what needs to be tweaked anyway?

The video settings. I did set the contrast back to 50%. I'm getting terrible shadows from cable channels.
Convergance????

Hey Bill, quick question, what channels are you getting with Comcast HD?

the convergence settings allow you to "aim" the red & blue so they overlap the green perfectly to get the clearest white (at least in the setup).. ultimately it aims everything for a clear picture..
my cable channels have a red bleeding and rigidity look... not as bad as it used to be, but still nasty. i believe it has a lot to do with the signal comcast sends. when i look at the same reds on another TV (picture tube) i can even see the red bleeding if i look closely for it. it's just more noticeable on the big screen...
i also find it worse if i watch cable through my VCR instead of through ANT-A.
