WS-55807 video problem - SD doesn't work, HD does.

I own a WS-55807 that we have had for some time. While my roommate was watching TV, the video went out. The audio, however, still worked fine.

We tried swapping the inputs, and in fact tried all four. Same problem: no picture, but good sound.

To make sure it wasnt the satellite receiver, we swapped it out with a receiver from another room. Same issue. Next, we tried getting rid of the AV cables all together and used a coax. Again, sound but no picture.

Heres the odd bit: the HD component input from my Xbox 360 works fine! We get both great picture and sound. What could possibly be wrong with my TV that standard video inputs do not work, but the HD component works fine?

Sounds like a problem in signal selection. Could be a bad switching chip, a coolant leak or a hundred other things. Needs some troubleshooting.

Cool, thanks for the reply! Every now and then we try and see if the standard video works, and every now and then it does... for about ten or so minutes. Then the video goes out again, but we still have sound. A couple of days/weeks later, it will work again.... for another 10 minutes. Does this help narrow down the possibilities of what could be wrong?

Also, whats a fair price for someone to come out and look at/fix this? Or should I just call Best Buy? I tried looking for a Mitsubishi repairman locally, but didnt have much luck getting a hold of anyone who spoke English well enough that I could understand them easily =P

Not at all. A scope and a close visual inspection of the circuit boards is the next step.
