I have an older(3 years) Sony surround sound reciever with only one digital coaxial input for DVD/LD. I just figured out that by unplugging the DVD player and plugging in the output from the
HDTV STB that I really improved my sound(DUH!!!). Is there a device that I can plug both digital coaxial inputs, one from the DVD and the other from the STB, then into the only input on the receiver, and then theoretically switch back and forth like an RF modulator used with an older TV and a DVD player? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I will apologize now if this is in the FAQ section. I figure 57U will answer but anybody with any info. please let me know.
Thank you,

You could get a "Y" adapter with one male end and two female ends and then run the line from STB and DVD player this would work fine assuming you never had both on at the same time. The other option would be a piggy back cable which would accomplish the same thing.

If you had more than 2 things to plug in than a simple RCA switch would work fine but since you only have two then a switch isn't necessary.

Thank you for answering so soon! Is there a special Monster digital coaxial Y plug that is better than a Radioshack Y splitter?
Thanks,

The RS splitter will be fine. Digital signal are not like analogue and don't need a "special" cable. The signals either get through, or they don't.

You may wish to buy a slightly better quality one, so that the connectors are good, they are usually the weakest link. No need to spend a lot of money though....
