I have the above mentioned widescreen hdtv and Panasonic dvd-rp62 hooked up by monster cables component. Few issues I would like to ask help on if anyone knows/has the same problems:

1. When outputing a progressive signal to the tv the picture is stretched sideways and I lose about 1 cm from each side. When the signal is interlaced I get those sections back. To my knowledge all setting are in proper order. DVD zoom function is off and set to 16x9 ratio. TV aspect ratio I can't change when recieving a progressive signal.

2. Picture is shifted to the left. i.e. the blue border during the thx demo in some movies are shifted left. Left side is cut off.

Tried changing cables, switching from comp 1 to 2. Tried different aspect ratio dvd's. All dvd's tested were anamorphic and enhanced for 16x9. Anyone have an idea of what I can do?

Welcome to the forum.

By reading your brief description of the problem, I'm not able to assist. Perhaps someone with a similar TV can assist. You say you can only use the stretch (Aspect) modes on "i" signals - bummer - this is true of several models of TV.

Perhaps you'd like to look at the FAQ section on the home page. See the posts on "Widesreen stretch modes" and "Black Bars" to make sure you're using the right stretch modes, etc on "i" signals...

Do you notice a signficant difference in image quality between "i" and "p"? If not, you may wish to watch some/all of your material in "i"???

There are other posts in the FAQ section that you may also find of interest - especially "what you need to do to your new HDTV" (if you haven't read them already). A test disk like AVIA has test patterns that show the amount of "overscan" or "shift" in the picture as well...

Good Luck.

PS. I did a search for the Samsung model number you indicated and came up blank. Is the model number correct? Edit - Found the error, should be TXM.

I see you've already tried switching inputs. Sometimes one is designed for HD Signals (1080i) from a STB and this signal cannot be stretched, while the input designed for DVD can...

I guess you can't expect too much from the least expensive 16:9 HDTV. You may have to live with the first issue. As to the second issue on "shifting to the left", I'm not sure, you may wish to call service on that one, once you've checked it out for sure.

A tech should be able to take care of that for you usually by just going into the service menu definetly have someone look at it while you are within your warranty period.

Does your DVD player have a place in its menu for shifting picture? It also sounds if the progressive picture overscans a bit.

I had a similar problem. If you access the Service menu and go to the 480P setting you can correct this problem. To access the service menu turn off the TV and press 'mute', '1', '8', and '2' and power on to access it.

I have a similar but I am not sure what to do after entering into the service menu. Can someone please elaborate it a little bit more so that I know which one to adjust and how to change the settings.

Thanks in advance.

for me it was goto 420p and mess with the hshift and vshift and vamp and some EWamp or something like that. Just write down the original settings if you screw up.

I make the changes and now it seems that both progressive and interlace input shows the same/similar width.

I then try to watch the DVD in interlace mode and changed the screen size from wide to panoramic and I noticed that both the interlace and progressive input for wide screen is still missing a bit on both sides.

If I use progressive input I can only use the wide mode, what should I do?

Any asistance? Thanks

Yeah if your in progressive mode it forces wide screen and there seems to be nothing you can do about it.

If your still missing some picture probably just tweaking the settings in the service menu some more will help fix that.
