View Full Version : home theater in a box. $500?
I'm looking for a home theater in a box for about $500.00. I've looked at the onkyo hts650 and it sounds great but a little large on the speaker size. I realy need smaller speakers. Any ideas?

For really small speakers Bose is the choice. Other-wise check out Denon and Sony. Also, in general the larger the room or the more openings the room has (hallways, doors) the larger and higher powered speakers you will want.
If I was going to build this separately is the Kenwood vr6070 a good receiver? What about jbl scs150 speakers? I am just starting to look for my surround sound. I appreciate the help.

I love my Kenwood. I paid six bills for it last year. Now it's about $400.
zaggie,
I noticed your up in the home town of ND. Great place. I hope the irish kick butt this year again.
well i dumped the idea of getting a boxed sound system. i ended up with the kenwood 6070 with yamaha ns-ap480sw speakers. i'll let you know how it all sounds when i get it hooked up with my new hitachi 57swx20b. i still have about a week to get that.

Is buying a all-in-one surround sound sytem bad? Just curious, because I'm thinking about getting one. (When I say all-in-one, I mean the receiver with the speakers).
Typically it's best to buy a separate A/V receiver, a DVD player and a "5.1" speaker system. This may cost a bit more, but the sound and video will be better and it provides more flexibility.
However, there are people who have difficulty with sorting through the various components, connections, etc. In that case a HTIB may be an option to consider, but don't buy the cheapest one around...
