Anybody out there having problems with the sound from the Grammy awards? I am and my cable provider,Cox has said they are and I would like to know if it is a local problem or a CBS problem. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I am in arlington, virginia using Comcast HD over cable. I am also disappointed with the grammy's. The grammy's are really displaying two problems I see constantly. First, the sound is not synced. Second, any pictures with lots of motion are horribly pixelized -- e.g., Nelly's performance was totally garbled in pixels (I assume b/c all of the flames, etc.).

I'm getting it almost perfectly via Rogers cable and Detroit CBS, in very beautiful HD and DD5.1. No sound or picture problems other than the usual minor stuff associated with live programmes.

Edit - there was some sound synch problem - seemed to vary during the show - occasionally perfect - probably network related.

Thanks 57U,

I am going to try and keep from going nuts on my provider after this. As a hindsight, 57U, did you receive "The Music Man" in HD last week? I didn't and the guy I trust at the retailer that I bought our set didn't either. Cox Cable in Omaha, you have some 'splaining to do.
Thanks,

I saw a bit of Music Man last week. It may have been HD, but 4:3 format. Couldn't swear to it....

BTW, there was a bit of audio sync problem with CBS and the Grammys tonight. It seemed to be intermittent. I don't think it's the service provider, probably network related.

Thanks 57U,
I unplugged and replugged every input and still got sh*t for sound. Did it get any better for you?

It was "better" during the middle of the show, right after I turned my STB off and on, but perhaps it was coincidence, because the sound synch got worse again. Not terrible, but about 1/10 second. I got excellent DD5.1 sound, just not in synch as you stated.

I just tried again,10:10 PM CST, and still the same crap.
I'm glad it just isn't me.

Based on information from other forums, even if the sound is out of synch from the network, the affiliate should be able to "recombine" it properly.

On digital channels, the sound and video are sent separately.

There are therefore several places the sound synch can get "screwed up" (and corrected).

- At the event
- At the network
- At the affiliate
- At the service provider (Cable, satellite)
- At the STB (sometimes an off-on switch will correct the issue).

The situation should be correctable by any of the first 4, but sometimes, the signal goes bad during the second or third last step (ground to satellite for example - even cable companies use satellites), then if it's not caught, it's too late...

Hmmm ... audio glitches .... yeah I heard those too ... every time Eminem said Motherf*cker or when Nora Jones (who won 5?) said sh*t. :) Seriously, here in Des Moines, the audio feed was perfect. The biggest problem was that CBS had a TON of surround sound problems and microphone glitches throughout the night. Ahhhh, the growing pains of technological advancement (live DD 5.1). I wonder if those technicians are cursing Dolby E right about now.

Started watching about 8:45 Est. Only twice that audio skippd a beat. Other than event problems such as bad microphones, no problems that were realted to transmission here-pixleation,droputs out of synch sound or signal loss. Mine was OTA here in Atlanta not cable. The problesm seem to suggest cable related.

I had no picture problems and I'm on cable. Over on AVS, people from all the service providers seemed to think it was the affiliates that "screwed up".

Ever since the Jethro Tull over Metallica as best metal band debacle I've not been a grammy fan, but man that broadcast was very nice to watch and hear. We got it OTA here and it was fantastic! Totally blew my neighbors minds! Just keep the HD programming coming folks!

Everything seemed great with my OTA feed in Tampa, FL. The HD broadcast and the DD 5.1 sound was awesome. No Problems reported here other than the few times CBS screwed up with bad mics and such.
