i have a toshiba dst3000 satellite receiver and have direct tv.
Could any one please tell me how to hook up this receiver to receive over the air hd signals with a antenna? Do i need to hook the antenna up to the cable/antenna in or to the sat in ?Also,what is the advantage to using a diplexer? and do i need 1 or 2 of them.

That would be antenna in. The satelite Dish would connect to SAT in.

The diplexers are used when your OTA antenna and dish are closely co-located outside. You can use one diplexer outside to combine the VHF/UHF signal from the antenna with the high frequency (~1900 MHz) satellite signal. This means you don't have to run a separate chunk of coax cable. Then, inside near your receiver, you put another diplexer in to take that single piece of coax and split it back out to the two separate signals (OTA and satellite). Thus you need two diplexers.
Can't say for sure on your STB, but on my Hughes E86 I can actually run the "diplexed" OTA+satellite signal directly into SAT IN - it has the "un" diplexer built into the box. So in this case I can get by with a single diplexer (outside only). On my setup, installation menu there's a choice for where I get my locals - ANT IN or SAT IN, and whether I have OTA or cable on each of those. If you have something similar you may also have a built-in diplexer on SAT IN.

He just may have a 'built-in' diplexer in his STB. I believe that the Tosh is a Hughes 'clone'.
