New guy here-first posting. I'm pretty literate about audio, being a professional musician, but a serious newbie on the video side. I'm at squre one of a basement theater intallation, meaning the basement isn't even studded out yet.
Basic parameters are: desire for 10' screen, considering Sony front projector in the $3,000 range, plus screen ($1,500), Denon 6.1 receiver, Klipch speakers all around, Velodyne 15" sub which I already own. Approx. seating distance is 14'-16', considering tiered second row, 7 1/2' ceiling, ability to nearly totally blackout the room.
Anyone see any glaring flaws in the plan?

You might want to check one of the other forums as it has a DIY home theater section and can really fill your head with things to consider and worry about.:D

I was in the same boat about a year ago. I would recomend you make sure that your projector is HDTV compatible and has a progressive native display and not interlaced. When you get to that size the space between the lines becomes very noticable. I have 110" steward blackhawk screen with a Sharp DLP projector It has a 720P native display. The projector was more exspensive but I think its worth the money. Simply because of the higher contrast and more lumins. Bulb life of 2000 hrs plus. Decide where you are going to mount your projector and run all the wires for each input before you hang drywall. Mine hangs from ceiling in the back of room. I thought three component would be enough then found out after the ceiling was up I needed three more to hook up PS2. (have 2 set of component input on projector). I built a false wall covered with speaker grill material with my screen flush with the out side then placed my front and center speakers behind it so all you see is the screen.
