:usa1: My Comcast Motorola DCH3416 I died, and was replaced with a 'new' DHC3416. The model number is the same, but the 'new' box is completely different. It has a flat panel and display. There is a PDF file manual available from Motorola. Any experience with this 'new' unit?

I just got one a few weeks ago, if we are talking about the same thing. Mine works ok. It still freezes up for a few seconds several times a night when I switch channels or press info/guide. But other than that it's ok. I haven't had to pull the power on it yet, as I did repeatedly with the 6412III.

Your old unit was a DCT-3416; the new one is DCH-3416. T = Terminal; H = Host; if I recall correctly. The only significant difference between the two is that the DCH uses an embedded CableCard to effect authentication.

Other than the display, the DCH3416 also has a USB port on the face.
There is an RJ45 on the back, but is disabled. :boo2:

Hi guys,
I have a DCH-3416 from Comcast in Center City Philadelphia.
I need an always on powered USB port for a IR->bluetooth converter. The DCH-3416 has two USB ports. Does anyone here know if Comcast enables these ports? Again, I don't need any data, I really just need the power source.
If they deactivate them, is this something I can ask comcast to re-enable, or am I going to need to get a USB AC adapter?
Thanks!
The ports are probably deactivated for uses like external HDD (SATA is used for that), however, they may have power on them. You'd need to check.
Comcast would not change the firmware for your purpose. I know that of some people who do exactly what you're doing for their IR2BT/IR4PS3 devices, but that's in Canada...

Not to be a wise guy...
1) did you try using the USB port to see if you get power?
2) if it doesn't work, did you try calling Comcast.
3) if neither of the above is positive, then I guess you need an adapter. ;)

I don't have the device yet, however I did try connecting my ipod to the usb port and no dice, however I've read of certain USB devices apple products can't use.
I have not called comcast yet, generally I've found that their CS people know less about their STBs than I do.

Ah, I didn't know if it was a firmware thing, or an activation code like a premium channel, or a straight hardware disconnect.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm trying to do IR4PS3.
Thanks!
