From alt. video.digital-tv thread.
Pace receivers before the vat tax are retailing at $109 in the UK, now. What would the price be in the US at 6 times the population if we had gone COFDM two years ago? Probably sub $100, probably sub $50 from broadcasters with a "plan" who realize that they could be doing HDTV and datacasting and PPV and raking it in, probably free from broadcasters with the smarts to know that grabbing as many eyeballs as possible is a "plan" when you want as many people in your store as possible.
Pace had offered to make $200 HDTV recievers 2 years ago in their testimony before Congress. That was similar to receivers they were introducing in the UK at the time. They also suggested that COFDM receivers built into HDTV monitors could cost as little as $50 two years ago. I wonder what those proces would be today if the US was a COFDM market?
I do know that receivers would be available in the US today at close to free if not free if COFDM had been adopted. Since COFDM will be "legal" after the June 19th FCC Auction #44 the DTV transition may finally get interesting.

Can already be found for $128 at places-

It's worth noting that price includes 17.5% tax, so the real price is actually
$109 USD.
