Its my understanding that some studios will support blu ray only and others will only support hd dvd... Are there any list of which studio will exclusively support which format?

If you do a simple search on yahoo for HD DVD supporters and Blu Ray you'll find it pretty quick.

HD-DVD is taking on water quickly. I believe only one major studio is left. I think by the end of this year Blu Ray maybe declared the all out winner.

.
Here's an article (http://www.tvpredictions.com/hddiscsales011708.htm) on the particular subject of Blu-ray vs. HD DVD sales that puts things in perspective:
"If this were a boxing match, HD DVD was just knocked down."

According to the article: Home Media Magazine reports that Blu-ray last week captured 85 percent of high-def disc sales compared to HD DVD's 15 percent.

Even worse for HD DVD, Home Media Magazine writes that the top 10 high-def disc sellers were all Blu-ray. The best-selling HD DVD, The Kingdom, sold just 10 percent as many discs as the best-selling Blu-ray title, 3:10 to Yuma.

Additionally, Warner Bros.' decision to exclusively support the Blu-ray format may help settle this very muddled matter of Blu-ray vs. HD DVD. When the biggest company in the home-video business chooses sides, that's big news.

According to this USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/products/2007-07-16-disney-blu-ray_N.htm) article:
"As for the two formats, Blu-ray appears to have the edge....
Seven studios support Blu-ray: Disney, 20th Century Fox, MGM, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Paramount and Lionsgate. Warner and Paramount also release their films on HD DVD, while Universal releases are limited to HD DVD."

It's time for a resolution and a clear direction in the HD DVD player market as to where the consumer should be addressing his upgrade to an HD DVD player...
if one is "better than the other" then let's be clear about it and eliminate the guessing game.
Harkening back to the days of Betamax vs. VHS, "...it's like Deja Vu all over again!"

Didn't Paramount just announce like a few weeks ago they were going to Blu-Ray?? Almost postive I read that. I believe in the story they were also talking about that when Paramount moves expect Dreamworks to follow quickly behind.

"Didn't Paramount just announce like a few weeks ago they were going to Blu-Ray??"
It's no wonder everyone is so confused about the Blu-ray/HD DVD tug-o-war... :headb:

A simple Google Search for "Paramount Studios Blu-ray" finds this statement
...(albeit, dated August 20, 2007 by computerworld.com (http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9031638&intsrc=hm_list) ):
"Paramount Pictures announced today that it will drop support for Sony's Blu-ray high-definition format in favor of exclusively supporting the Microsoft-backed HD DVD. The decision further complicates the race between the competing technologies."

This exclusive deal means (meant?) that all movies distributed by Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures & DreamWorks Animation, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon and MTV Films will all be using HD DVD.

Then you find this article (http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/paramount-following-warner-out-the-hd-dvd-door/) (dated more recently Jan 7th 2008):
"The Financial Times is reporting that Paramount is preparing to use a get out clause in its HD DVD exclusivity deal, and go back to Blu-ray, about 4 months after ending its dual-format release schedule. The move would be a result of Warner's switch to Blu-ray, using a "get out" clause in Paramount's promotional agreement with the HD DVD camp."

I suggest doing your own search and coming to your own conclusion but, all things considered (especially Blu-ray out-selling HD DVD discs 85% to 15%), it appears as though the tide has turned against HD DVD and Blu-ray is emerging as the clear winner...
but that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
