My home is full of Sony electronics, TV's, DVD Players, LD Player, VHS, Short Wave, Computer, Receiver, DVD & CD Jukebox and the KV-32XBR100 CRT TV with the "state of the art " feature box designed to be upgraded with new features! (When? I'm waiting.... more than 10 years now) You might say I was a full bore Sony fan (please notice past tense...)
I know this not the place for computer issues, but that was the last straw...anyway I tried to get service scheduled for my KDP-57XBR2 RPTV. It recently developed a new feature. On black screens or black areas on the screen, I have a series of thin green lines running horizontally separated by several inches from one side to the other. Kind of a one color rainbow faintly, but irratitating and definitely a problem.
One service center quoted me $95 to come out to the house, and $100 to $300 labor plus parts.
OK, so I also have a KP-53HS10 in the bedroom, that was repaired under warranty, but the tech was in a hurry and never really did converge or set the overscan properly, so that needs atttention.
And then...the mother of them all that KV-32XBR100 with the "feature box" that now has lost it's sound. The last time, one of the tuners crapped out and the local tech kept insisting I didn't have two tuners in the set. I showed him on his own schematic the tuners. But he refused to believe and call California only to find out yep...order and replace the second tuner. By the way, the plastic on this set, cabinet and feature box, has become brittle and is breaking very easily.
Everyone who sees the KV-32XBR100, including my non-tech wife still says it has the best picture they have ever seen...even against HD. That set must weigh almost 175 pounds, but what a TV. I do agree, what ever Sony did on that TV, they did right. I am going to try to get it fixed, because it really looks good still. Anyway...
What do you experts think of the KDP-57XBR2 with the green lines? Also, totally white screens seem to have blotches, not a pure white. And does any know what a new screen runs? My parent's dog drooled on the screen and their attempts to clean it off damaged the coating on the screen.
I think at this point in my life though, I am going to start to look elsewhere than Sony. My service and support experiences could be Steven King novels.
Don't under any circumstances buy a VAIO computer with Vista. You will come to regret this.
Thanks in advance.
