View Full Version : Sony LCD XBR4 problem?
  :headb: I have a Sony 52 inch LCD XBR4 hooked up to a Sony ES4300 AV receiver. Our HD source is from Time Warner cable with a Motorola DVR.
My problem is that every once in a while when I switch from an HD channel to a standard channel, I end up with a pink tinted screen. After switching back and forth a few times or turning the DVR/tuner off and then back on, the standard channed becomes normal again. It really sucks when I set up the DVR to record a standard channel and the whole recording comes out in Pink!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, so far, I have wasted hours on end trying to get tech help from both Sony(outsourced out of country) and Time Warner. Both have been of no help what soever. It seems I even know more that ANYONE I talked to at the help desks. That is really scary as I don't know very much.
Has anyone had anything similar to my situation?? If so, were you able to fix it?? It is very annoying to have to deal with this.
PLEASE HELP
I assume you're using an HDMI connection. The XBR4s have been having a lot of problems with HDMI. If using HDMI, suggest you switch to component video. See the following thread on the topic, as well as other useful FAQs here:

Pink colour is almost always indicative of a poor connection. The link at the bottom of the above thread provides a list of things to check - the connection, cable, etc.

Ok, after almost 5 months of gorgeous images on my Sony 52XBR4 with Time Warner cable.
Connection - HDMI
Cable box - Samsung 3050
Time Warner Manhattan
I have very contrasty images, possible macroblocking (grainy and blochy HD images), speckly lines, etc.
So, before Time Warner comes out, I want to try component connection. I have connected the component cable. However, and I'm fairly technically knowledgeable (maybe not as much as I thought) - going into the Television and cable setups, I can't find a way to make a video input that the connection is now component (not HDMI).
Please let me know what needs to be done.
Oh, I believe the cable box is the real problem. However, I'm somewhat concerned that since Time Warner recently added additional HD channels that they are compressing the signal - resulting in a lower resolution image - I hope I'm wrong!
Thank you for helping me set up for a component connection.

When you connected the component video cables, did you disconnect the HDMI? You need to.
I have never heard of a Samsung 3050 cable box, however TW usually uses SA equipment and here's a link to the setup and tips for that type of STB. Are you sure it's not something like an SA3250HD? Make sure that your TV is switched to the correct input - the one using the CV cables...

Here's a link of "things to check" if the above doesn't do the trick:

Yes, I disconnected the HDMI cable from my Samsung smt-h3050. I noticed that you own a Sony-perhaps you can guide me within the SONY setup. When going into the external inputs setup window, I only see an HDMI 1 , HDMI 2 and HDMI 3 options.

I'm watching the Met/Yankee game on 728 ESPN and the image is noticeably poorer than just a couple of weeks ago-coincidental with the addition of more HD channels - so I would like to see if I can get better image quality with a component connection.
Thank you for your help.

Normally when you plug a cable into the newer TVs the inputs then show up. You certainly need to be able to switch to the appropriate input (component video) to be able to see a signal there. Perhaps you have "skipped" certain inputs in the setup menu. Unskip them if you have them marked as "skip".
What happens when you repeatedly press the input button on the remote - doesn't it bring up the various inputs available?
