I've research a lot here on the forum...it seems to be there is no need to spend "big bucks" on these cables!

I was having some picture quality issues on my 720p plasma. I had been using a $1.99 hdmi cable i got on ebay. Went to Circuit City yesterday and bought a $99 Monster hdmi 700HD cable and I could swear I saw an improvement. No more flickering of brightness and the picture looks great. I know what everyone says that it should not make a difference, and I'm the first to tell some sales rep at a box store that he's an idiot trying to sell me a $150 hdmi cable, but somewhere in the back of my mind I know I saw something different with the new cable. Maybe it's in my subconcious or something...
It's very likely your subconscious if the cable is shorter than 25'. See:
http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/2008/02/20/packing_the_deal/ MarketPlace item
http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=21206 Luxury Cables
I watched the actual programme and the marketing person said that people are actually "proud" of their expensive cables - I'd be more proud of being an educated consumer and saving the money after purchasing the cable appropriate for the job. Longer runs will require a thicker cable, but they are also available at Monoprice as indicated in the second link - links near the bottom of post 1.

Was it an improvement worth the extra $97.00?
You don't sound too convinced.
I'm not getting that the difference you observed was very "dramatic".
As one of the links 57U posted points out:
"Monster cables cost upwards of $250."
begs this issue be settled once and for all...to Monster or NOT to Monster?
so kjjb0204 how about a challenge?
We have no knowledge of what cable you purchased off of eBay and what guarantee/specs came along with it but, how about spending another $5.00 and getting that one from Amazon and compare your $99 cable to the $2.06 cable?
I for one would be curious to hear your comments afterward.
(you might even decide to return that $99 cable and get a refund)
I'm just sayin"...

I'm not convinced, because I know that with digital, the zeros and ones either make it across the cable or they don't. There's no distortion of picture quality possible - it either works or it doesn't. I know that's true, but so many other things in my house adhere to the old adage "you get what you pay for" and it's just hard for me to let go of that principle.

I have a adage I live by too KJJB0204. "A fool and his money is soon parted" LOL JK!
Enjoy your $99 Monster. I will go get my $10 from Monoprice and live happily ever after!
