I'm getting Comcast digitial soon. Anyone know what boxes they are currently using? Dumping Starpower as they don't carry HD and their Motorola boxes (at least the ones I got short six months ago) don't even have S-Video outputs.

Montgomery County, MD uses the Motorola DCT-5100. They are very slow with pushing out new firmware though.

What's that?

Another word for software - usually kept in the units "ROM" instead of on a HDD, floppy, CD-Rom, etc.

So does this 5100 come w/ DVI or Firewire? I looked at the specs and saw that this is optional for the cable provider.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a box with firewire. Some people are getting boxes with DVI ports but they haven't been enabled by any firmware releases yet.

Thanks. Comcast is coming later today and I'll let you know what I end up with.

Got the hookup w/ 5100. As one would expect, HD is awesome, digital is good, analog is so-so. The box is so much faster on menus and channel-changing than the old digital boxes. For others in Montgomery County, the tech told me ESPN HD is coming March 30.
