I read somewhere that the colorwheel motor makes noise. Can Samsung DLP owners tell me how loud is the noise. Is it as loud as desk top pc's fan or barely noticeable in a quiet room? Thanks:)

What noise? I have the 437, no noise. There's a fan that kicks in, but it's not noticeable.

The HLN 50" set is looking sweet I must say. Just got some units in yesterday at work. A considerable step up in my opinion over the HLM series we initially carried.

Lowpro, can you tell me what those improvements are in the HLN ? Thanks:rolleyes:

The only improvements in the HLN series are cosmetic i.e. Input labeling. Any assumption that the HLN series without DCDi are better is just nonsense. An HLM requires calibration, the HLN does not which is why it may appear better. Use the AVIA disc for this, and expect it to take a few hours. Properly calibrated, the HLM blows away any competition. 720p is here to stay.

There are some differences with the HLN series as a whole over the HLM series.

All HLN series sets have Samsung's DNIe or Digital Natural Image Enhancer (Engine) processing, and Aspect Ratio Memory by Input. You won't find this true of the HLM series.

The HLN "7" series still retains the Faroudja DCDi processing found in last years HLM "7" series sets. Not sure about the HLN "65" series and DCDi. Local retailers advertise that the HLN "65" series does have Faroudja DCDi, but there is no logo on the set itself.

The HLN "65" series does include all the cosmetic improvements that were part of the HLM "7" series sets from last year. In addition, the new HLN series sets are less bulky. Just take the HLN5065W for example. The HLN5065W is only 84lbs and 17 inches deep, while the HLM5065W is 101lbs and 22 inches deep. I've yet to see the specs on the 43" and 61" sets, but I'm sure there are differences there as well.

I also have a note concerning the implementation of DNIe, 3:2 pull down, and DCDi for the HLN series. This information is straight from Samsung.

"DNIe is more important of a feature over the 3:2 pull down solutions, because it works on all analog inputs including the wideband component video and the inputs for progressive scan DVD players. Note also, the 3:2 pull down circuitry only works in the NTSC 480i and does not work in 480P, 720P or 1080i inputs. These scan rates bypass the Faroudja and 3:2 pull down circuits."

Last couple tid bits I have may not be changes since the HLM line, but it is good stuff nonetheless.

The HLN series does employ the 12-degree HD-2 Mustang panel. The color wheel used is a 6 segment 2.5x color wheel which runs at 9,000 RPM. I'm not sure if these specs on the DMD chip and color wheel are improvements over the HLM series from last year, but they may very well be.

I just got my Samsung HLN5065W two days ago. I went out and purchased the HDTV cables (5 RCA) for my Xbox and PS2... I have a slight problem I hope you all can help me with:

the back of the tv has 3 sets of HDTV Cr Cb Cy R L jacks, one labeled "Component 1 480i/480p", and two labeled "Component 2 480p/720p/1080i" and "Component 3 480p/720p/1080i".

when I plug the Xbox or Playstation into "Component 1 480i/480p" they each work fine. When I plug them into either of the other two components the screen is blank and displays "Mode Not Supported".

I have the Xbox settings to 480p YES, 720p YES, 1080i YES, and the PS2 settings to HDTV 16:9.

How can I hook both boxes up to my Samsung? I assume I want them to be 1080i... but how do I do that?

Thanks very much!!!

I can make a guess:

That TV has a dedicated 480 input for DVD/Game systems. It can take either 480 I or P (Interlace or Progressive)

But those other inputs: only take 480P.

My guess is you have to force your game system to produce 480p. They are currently putting out 480I which those inputs dont support.

how would I force them to do that? The Xbox clearly had settings to select whether my HDTV supported 480p/720p/1080i ... and I set them all to yes. I hope I don't have to buy more hardware.

I work with someone that owns the HLN-5065W and uses it mostly for x-box gaming. He does not have any problems taking advantage of the HD resolution format games that are available. I will give him a shout and get back to you on this. Hopefully what I find out will be of some help.
