I just bought a new 51" Sony HDTV and getting information on HDTV receivers is next to impossible. (I can't even get the idiots at best buy or circuit city to even hook one up!)

I blew most of my money on the TV so Im looking to go cheap on the receiver. (Is that a bad idea?) Can anyone suggest a model or brand name for an HD beginer? What kinds of features do you look for in a HD receiver?

Samsung is OTA only
Dish 6000 with an OTA module -OTA and Dish offerings
All others are connected to Direct TV.
Any can be had from 500-800 dollars. Try E-Bay-for used or search the web. If you can find a used Pioneer or Sharp cheap snatch one up because they lock on channels the best.

Keep checking Best Buy for returned and repackaged units. I got the Samsung SIRT150 OTA Receiver for $449 and Samsung is offering a $100 rebate if you buy one before June 2002. It's a real simple unit and beats any price I've seen. Plus it's super simple to hookup, use, and 1080i looks great!

Another good place to get one is ABT Electronics once they get more in stock.
