Need some help with the HD world.

Help!!
Was hoping someone could help. I'm just about to buy HDTV but have not really a clue as to the difference between 1080 and 720. Some people say that they don't broadcast stuff in 1080 yet and that its a waste of money to buy one if the screen isn't bigger than 50 inch.
Also is there a word on the street as to what's the best 37 inch?

If you're looking at a smaller TV, unless you're sitting very close, then you don't really need 1080P. See:
