Hi everyone. This is my first post. Im pretty psyched. Okay here's the thing:
My parents bought a SONY WEGA 27"FS 700 (or something like that). Anyway, it ended up sitting in their house for about a month because it wouldn't work properly. We got some channels to work but they were all fuzzy. They told us at the store that we would need an antenna because my parents refuse to get cable. SO we got a 20 dollar antenna but I guess that didn't cut it. THey returned the TV. Their old TV (or all the old TVs I guess) came with an antenna which worked. Are the new TVs made differently so that they are deficient in some way that make them need a really expensive antenna or cable.???
Anyone know?
Well, do you think our only option is to put an antenna on our roof? Or does everyone in the world have cable?
adios

I am using a $10 amplified antenna INSIDE my attic and can pull in plenty of HD channels (remember HD is on the UHF band) .. nothing special about that setup.

Check out www.antennaweb.org and plug in your address to see what channels you *should* be able to get with different size antennas..

Good luck!

I think your tv is an analog tv correct? I don't know much about it, but I think I would have tried a more expensive antenna before I returned the tv. The sony model your parents bought gets high reviews most places I've looked. It's a good question though...were the older tvs' built-in antennas higher quality than today's stand alones? Maybe more of an effort was made back then to sell a tv with a great antenna since so many people relied on them. That being said - that shouldn't mean that you couldn't find a comparable stand alone antenna - though I don't know what price range we're talking about.

Anyone out there knowledgable about these older sets, and what kind of antenna could do the trick with today's tvs?
