in helping draft an email to Comcast and WJZ.
I am not the most effective writer but would be interested in conveying my frustration of not having CBS (mostly) and PBS in the Baltimore, Howard and Harford Counties.
The NCAA CBS HD games are around the corner and I think this is really starting to get to me.
I understand that this is a local issue but would like to see who it impacts on this website.
I welcome some feedback.
Thanks
Bill
I'll follow your thread closely. Comcast just took over the cable business here in Portland, OR. I'd like to see how they respond to your letter. I'm not much help at letter writing, I tend to ramble :)
Thanks,
Lee

Spaceist,
Great! I just want someone or a group of us to post what they think to be an effective letter.
In addition it has been recommended to find an email address within the company (Comcast) that may be sympathetic to the cause.
I started with CBS and got some positive email but it stopped with I need to talk to CBS in New York. I am going to follow up with this person and see if I can be a nuisance.
Is anyone employed by Comcast or has a connection to Comcast?
Any recommendations on how to "word" the letter?

I wish I could help with the letter, but I dont get my ideas across very clearly either.. I am in Baltimore County and would be willing to contribute help... CBS is the only station that is holding me back from upgrading to Comcast HD, once that is available, I'm subscribing to the digital HD service.

Did you have any draft that you sent previously, which could be like a baseline.
Anyone else have any baseline drafts for this email ? 57 do you have any suggestions on how to draft this?

Classic57,
I am working the email addresses. I have made contact with WJZ and they are going to do some research (so they say) and will be providing an email address within the company that would be informed of the negotiations.
In addition I am going to call comcast and see if they can provide an email address.

Bill, I sent an email to CBS via their feedback section on CBS.com.
asking why Comcast MD did not carry CBS HD broadcasts. If they respond I will post. I also emailed FOX and ask the same question. Not much on FOX now, but it would be nice to see the NFL in HD on FOX as well. Even if its only 480p.

cloudnine,
I am waiting until the new HD/PVR is released. If Comcast has not made me a satisfied customer by then, I am switching as well.
I like the convenience of Comcast but the limited offering and the bullsh*t customer service.
I cant believe it is taking them 4 trips and counting to fix one channel.
I'm in the Boston/Cape Cod area and like you Comcast doesn't have CBS here either. No HD CSI LV and Miami!
My take on this slow roll-out is that Comcast simply doesn't have enough Motorala DCT5100's and enough techs to meet the demand if they start to push the service. They know that customers will be put off if they call and are told they have to schedule an appointment three or four months down the road.
They may also be trying to work out the bugs, but I doubt this is the major reason they only have five stations in HD so far. They aren't going into HDTV just to make us early adopters happy. They know as more people buy large screen HDTV ready sets, the demand will grow, and customers will want as many HDTV stations as possible.
There is still absolutely no advertising here for HD. Comcast has ads on regular tv for its general services but no mention of HD. There hasn't been anything included in the monthly bill either.
The only way people around here heard about HDTV besides word-of-mouth was a week after it began to be offered and this was in a Boston Globe article.
I think that when you start to see mass advertising for Comcast HDTV, you'll also see them offering CBS and ESPN, and possibly Discovery as well.
So many people buying new setting are getting the large screen HDTV ready sets. You can bet that Comcast wants to be able to make the pitch that their paying customers who are buying all these new sets will be able to view HDTV on their local cable

Most cable companies are working on that.
That would have no bearing though on whether they carry CBS.

I doubt it's a matter of having enough STB's. I'm sure Motorola could supply what they need. I've also heard that they use a different STB in other areas (the name escapes me at the moment).
Now as far as not having enough techs, that could be true as they say their techs need "special training" to install the STB's to HDTV's.
As for CBS, I was told they havn't worked out the "arrangements" with them yet and I posted an article from the LA Times in another thread where ESPN said they want to charge for their HD feed and the president of Comcast says he will not pay for it, so us Comcast subscribers may not be able to get ESPN-HD unless they come to an agreement.
Discovery-HD would be great!
