I love my SXRD to pieces and was thinking for down the road when I want to replace my Mits 65" what Sony has in the pipeline to replace the SXRD's with. IF space, money and husband weren't an issue I would have rushed out and bought the biggest SXRD I could afford before they were all gone but no such luck.

Yes, I know they were eliminating the SXRD's . . . I just didn't know IF LCD or DLP or what or combination thereof would be replacing them.

LCD as far as I know
Yes, LCDs. LCDs are a lot better now regarding black levels than a couple of years ago. I recently purchased the 40" W3000 as a second TV and it's great. RPTVs were not selling well, so many manufacturers got out of the business. Unfortunately for us, the margins are better on flat panels and flat panels are quite a bit more costly.
A 60" LCoS was selling for 1/2 (or less) of what a similar sized LCD sells for. Had there been a market for RPTVs, they'd probably still be around, but I guess there wasn't enough of a market, hence very few left. The LCoS was a great product, at a great price.
RPTVs also had a significantly lower reliability than flat panels - light engine issues, etc and perhaps that also contributed to more cost for the manufacturers and more reason to get out of the market.

Thank you for the replies. Guess I will re-research when the time comes up but I was secretly hoping they'd change their minds or ???

Don't worry the LCD's by Sony are some of the best if not best on the market. Plus the prices keep coming down.
Before the Super Bowl, places around here were selling the Sony 52XBR4 for $2799. Now I see it for $3299 to $3599. I was really hoping the price would have dropped now that my economic stimulus check is in the mail.

What I find surprising about this is that your husband was an obstruction to buying a huge HDTV!

It is very sad indeed. I waited and waited until I finally persuaded him to agree to the 65" Mits . . . he kept saying wait until the prices drop, wait, wait, wait. Of course he LOVED it once I bought it then he and the kids took it over and I was stuck watching the 27" in the bedroom while they watched stuff like Fear Factor or other stuff I didn't care for. So after about two or three years of that and saying how I needed a larger one in the MBR, I finally won that battle Mother's Day of last year for th 50" Sony SXRD. I told him if that price coming down mentality had been applied to computers around here we wouldn't have 4 plus the lap top plus a couple have been replaced once or twice over the past 12 years. . . . . he just like to save money, I like to enjoy it and spend it . . . we usually balance it pretty well, sometimes it just takes a bit of convincing on my part. LOL
