I may soon be getting a new TV and I'm looking for opinions. I currently own an RCA 32" LCD and would like to upgrade in size and to 1080p. I have been looking around at different brands, mainly at Wal-Mart. My budget is $1500 (but hopefully a little closer to $1000). Does anyone have suggestions?

The two that have caught my eye the most have been:
Sony 40" 1080p KDL-40S4100 $1193 (Walmart)
Philips 42" 1080p 42PFL3603D/27 $1098 (Walmart)
Toshiba 42" 1080p 42RV530U $1199 (Best Buy)

also an option is a clearance deal on a Philips 50" 720p Plasma for $800, which is really very tempting because of the price.

Feel free to give any comments about your experience with these TVs and ideas of others. Thanks.

I was faced with a similar decision a few months ago, trying to decide between the same Sony and Toshiba models.

You won't go wrong with either one IMO. Sony makes a great product. As for me, I went with the Toshiba because I have always bought Toshiba products and they have a good track record with me. This Toshiba model has 4 HDMI inputs and the tuner is fantastic. I pick up loads of OTA channels.

I'd suggest you spend time tinkering with each one.
Good luck and happy tv hunting.

I saw the $800 plasma at Wal-Mart today. I am impressed. I have a 56" DLP 1080P about 18 months ago. I am really pleased with the picture. I bought the DLP Mitsu because of large windows in the viewing room. But that plasma sure looks good.

$800 Plasma? :wow: Which brand? If it's a great deal, maybe I can convince my fiance' on allowing me to buy it? Fat chance on that happening, but it's least worth a shot. LOL
