I have a MITS HDTV with a Hughes DirecTV HD Receiver. Recently the remote for the TV, which I had programmed to also run DirecTV, DVD and my surround system, stopped running the aformetioned components. It still will work the TV but it will not work the others. I am at a loss. I have tried to reprogram the remote with no luck. In addition the original remote for the surround system and the DirecTV no longer work either. What is going on here? It is like they are no longer receiving the remote signals even though they should be. Batteries have been checked, etc. Has anyone had a similar problem or have any idea as to what might be going on?

Thanks

This is from out in left field but here it goes:

One time the electric company came out to the house and gave us "free" fluorescent - energy saving - bulbs for every regular bulb we had in the house.

Well in my bedroom I had a desk with a lamp on it that I could swing and angle to diff positions. Well this lamp had that new bulb in it..

I noticed that my remote stopped working for my TV and stereo - checked batt etc... and still nothing (like the tv stopped receiving the signal) well turns out that the bulb - or the light being emitted from the bulb was interfering with the IR signal

Like I said it's a long shot but - who knows it may help someone :)

thanks for the advice...it just so happens that where our theater is has flourescent lights...i will try it with the light off and see if it makes a difference...it has gone in and out in the past sporadically but now it seems to be out for good...my wife said it happened one day when she was watching tv...she said we blew a fuse as well...sould blowing the fuse and the remote have any connection as well...???

Don't just check the batteries, replace them with new ones. Although the unit might be emitting enough signal for one item, it may not for another.

The original remote batteries may be "gone" too???

I always start with the simplest items... Let us know how it turns out.

Edit - blowing the fuse may have caused some problems with the components themselves due to a power surge? You've got more to look for than batteries I think, but try replacing them on one of the remotes anyway.

Another long shot - the Hughes remotes have an id 001 to 008 associated with them. If somehow the remote and the STB get different IDs they won't work together. If necessary use the front panel buttons on the STB to navigate to the remote ID menu (I posted it somewhere on htdvoice once). Then use the remote you want to match with the STB.

Yeah sorry I guess it wasn't very clear. Do you have the user's manual for the Hughes box? If so look for "Receiver ID" in "Advanced Preference Options" and "Changing the Remote Control Address to Operate Other HD Receivers" in "Using the Remote Control."
